Imagine spending months browsing jewellers, Etsy, and Pinterest only to find the perfect ring in the window of a pawn shop while waiting for the bus 🙃
@fuzzywuzzy0102 Your engagement ring is beautiful! I love the floral setting around the ruby (?)
I don’t know if you noticed, but it looks like a small red stone fell out of your wedding band.
That one was an impulse buy from a sketchy antique jeweler- the guy couldn’t get rid of it due to the missing stone and sold it for 30 USD. I figured no problem I’ll just take it to a jeweler’s to get fixed. Turns out, no one cuts bohemian rubies anymore so I’m either stuck with a missing stone or a mismatching stone.
Of course, it took me another few months of looking for the perfect wedding band before finding out I already had it in my jewelry box 😂😂😂
@fuzzywuzzy0102 That’s an awesome story to go with your rings!
My fiance had a difficult time picking out a ring for me – about 4 years ago (we’ve been together for about 7 years) I made a throwaway comment to him saying I really liked solitaire rings in a princess cut and didn’t want anything else. Fast forward to last year when we were on holiday in Italy (a couple of bottles of red wine in ), we were chatting about marriage and weddings and I said I didn’t like solitaires and really loved antique Edwardian style rings set in platinum with lots of fine detail. He couldn’t keep a straight face and said he had been looking for solitaires for me for the last few years but never could pick one out as they didn’t seem like me! I had completely forgotten I said that so it was quite sweet he remembered that after all that time.
We then had a ‘ring amnesty’ period (lol) where we spend a couple of hours looking at rings online so he could get an idea of the sorts of things I liked, and he asked me to find out my ring size. Despite this I was still caught by surprise though as he made it very clear that we weren’t going to get engaged that year, but then not 4 months later he got down on one knee in Greenwich Park and proposed. I feel very lucky as I managed to get the best of both worlds – a lovely surprise and a gorgeous ring which I would never have picked myself but which is better than anything I ever could!
I’ve been here with a different username but managed to lock myself out of it so created a new account as I just have to share the engagement ring I designed and received TODAY. My fiancé proposed a little over two months ago with a plain band with the intention of me choosing stones and setting and adding it. However, once we started looking at rings we both agreed that my band should be a lot more delicate so we returned the band.
I’ve always loved three-stone rings and what they are said to represent, and I wanted a ring with a low setting. I saw a ring I loved most parts of in a store and worked with a designer to make it just the way I wanted it. It’s 0.5 carat round diamond with two 0.26 carat round diamonds in a platinum setting with a squared band. I’m a size 5.
We are both SO incredibly happy with the result.
I picked out my entire ring, and then SO just paid for it 😉 Here’s mine:
my mani is shameful, sorry
My husband, god love him, is extremely smart but doesn’t know the first thing about diamonds and settings. So when I new we were going in that direction we went to a couple different jewelry stores and I’d pick out my favorite rings and have the jeweler write down the info with a picture. So he had plenty of options of one he knew I’d love but I could still be surprised.
He recently took me in to upgrade my ring for our 5 year anniversary, again he said if he was going to spend that kind of money he wanted me to come and pick out something I truly loved instead of him guessing. But the deal was I couldn’t tell people I knew that I picked out the ring, that I knew about it, and I couldn’t see it until our anniversary.
Anywho here is my upgraded ring ( sorry layout my nasty hands, I’m definitely no hand model)
carat: just shy of 2.5
setting: .80 carats
I designed mine. I had another ring in the beginning that we picked out together. 2 years later I understood what I liked and didn’t like and had this ring custom made using the stones and the metal from the original stand in ring. The center is .5 and an old European cut. My fiance didn’t mind and he gave his good vibes and love to the new ring. I just got it back yesterday.
I was the same as you when I was waiting; absolutely ring crazy! Waiting was rough, lol!
I actually picked mine out almost entirely and had the fiancé put in his opinion so we could compromise. I originally wanted a full eternity and went to a half eternity setting, and also wanted stones on the side of the band as well, but he thought it was too much so we compromised again. I have to say he was right, as the added bling would have made the ring heavier and the band thicker which would have driven me crazy, I know it.
I loved doing the designing this way because it showed me just how serious he was about the process and I got to see how excited he was, which totally made my heart melt.
In the end we decided on a canadian diamond halo, a forever one C&C moissanite center stone of 1.25 carats and a cathedral setting. It’s perfect!
Stay strong girl, and take all the ring-viewing therapy you need. I swear it got me through more than anything else did. 😂
I chose mine. I also chose my fiance’s ring (he wears an engagement ring too). I was going to give him a set of rings I liked to choose from or use as inspiration for one he’d pick out, but I fell in love with this one. I double checked that he liked it and then sent him the link.
I told him the style I like but the end result was up to him! I knew the propsal was coming but the day it finally came was a complete surpise. We were engaged 9/29/17 🙂
