It was either help him before we got ‘engaged’ or help him afterwards. He was planning to propose with string lol. I didn’t want to wait.

When we started seriously talking about engagment I mentioned that I just wanted a sparkly ring.  He wanted to go by himself to pick it out and I trusted him (bold, I know)  The first time I saw my ring was when he was down on one knee, it is AMAZING and 100% sparkly πŸ™‚

I picked both my temporary (that I’m currently wearing until he pays off my “actual” ring) and my actual ring myself. He wanted to make sure it was a ring I would love (which I would have loved anything he would have surprised me with), but he wouldn’t accept that lol. So instead, he wanted me to pick out my engagement ring so he would know exactly what to get me.

One of my first posts on the bee was about the clash I was having with my Fiance about my ering. He felt that he needed to spend X amount of dollars in order to afford a nice ring I would love while I knew I would love absolutely anything and that spending X amount of dollars was unrealistic- it would take him years to save up that much money! A couple bees thought that sounded like a stall tactic, and honestly a part of me wondered the same thing.

So I suggested we look at rings together so that I could show him what I liked and that there were stunning rings in a lower than X amount price range.

I am so so glad we did! Once Fiance saw how much I loved the rings within our budget and was able to see them in person he ended up buying a ring 2 months later. I think getting past the hurdle of expectations- him thinking I expected a ring that would take him years and years to save up for- was paramount in him proposing.

walk_by_faith:  We decided to get married, then went ring shopping. I picked out my own ring. I did ask if he liked it too but that was mostly a technicality.

Orginally I gave my fiance pretty broad guidelines. After he picked out the stone he started asking for more input so I nudged him into the perfect ring.

Yes I picked out my own ring. I didn’t even want an engagement ring but my fiancé forced me to get one lol. He wanted me to get something I liked and was excited to wear every day because I don’t ever plan on upgrading πŸ™‚

We went ring shopping together and little did I know we’d found THE ring! I kept circling back to my now engagement ring and how much I liked it and i thought the price was right. He ended up going back a few weeks after we looked and buying it because he knew it was the one.

SO glad it happened this way because beforehand, i had my heart set on a halo and we didn’t find a single nice halo in our searches and I ended up with a solitare with sidestones.

I originally wanted to be surprised with my ring and just asked my SO to pick one out with my sister cuz I trust her taste and know she knows mine, but it was difficult to do since we are long distance and he’s in the military so limited time to be in the same place.

I started to get a bit anxious since I don’t really wear jewelry so I wanted to make sure I loved the style since I am quite particular and to be honest I wasn’t sure what kind of ring I wanted either until I stopped by several places myself, and picked out the exact one I wanted, which my now fiance preferred since he wasn’t sure what I wanted either (since i don’t wear rings)

Out of curiosity I asked him to show me rings he liked, and they were nice but not my style (twist shanks) so I’m glad we did it this way– it just worked better for us and our situation

Wow, I’m surprised how many bees had a hand in picking out their ring! I didn’t, but my DH asked if i like cathedral setting or a tiffany setting. That was the only thing I got to be involved with.

    I picked it myself.

My (now) husband told me he wanted to marry me.. We set a budget, went ring shopping and then he proposed with the ring I picked out. He planned a weekend away to officially ask.

I don’t like surprises, let alone surprise proposals.. Springing such a big question on someone and then giving them a ring they had no input into at all is not romantic to me.

We’re having it custom made and he pretty much wanted me to be involved since day one. I think he’s scared to chance it since I have hit or miss taste with jewelry. Waiting on the second set of cads to come currently. Hopeing we’ll be done by christmas.
