    We did not hire a wedding planner.  We decided on the colors and details, and were lucky enough to have a venue that had an event coordinator to help us figure out the set up of the room.

    No, I did hire a day-of coordinator to help do some of the physical stuff the day of that I won’t be available to handle (setup and teardown of centerpieces, bringing gifts and some other items back to the hotel, making sure all the vendors arrive on time, etc), but I had no interest in a planner.

    I am sure there is a need for that service, but my guess is that most regulars on WeddingBee aren’t usually the target market. Women who are interested enough to join and participate in a forum probably like to be somewhat hands on in their wedding. That’s not saying everyone by any means, but I’d guess the people who really want planners to come in and take over and pick themes and all of that most likely aren’t spending tons of time doing their own online wedding talk & research.

    We have a wedding planner in that it is included in our Disney wedding (as well as a day-of coordinator).  If we were getting married at any other location I would probably still have a wedding planner, just to help me get perspective on the timelines and what I need to pay attention to for the wedding.  At the very least, I would definitely have a day-of coordinator to worry about the details on the big day.  We don’t really have a theme for our wedding, just coordinating colors.  I think that a wedding planner’s “duties” are to help the couple put all their ideas and inspiration on paper and make it come to life.  They should be able to help them create a theme, if that is what they want, and to keep all the elements of the theme within the established budget.

    ETA: Another reason we have a wedding planner is that I live in VA, Fiance is deployed, and all friends and family are scattered to the four winds…even if I were into doing a lot of DIY stuff, I would stress myself out trying to do it all.  Best to let the wedding planner stress for me!

    I have one.  She’s more of a day-of coordinator… but shes definitely helped me with the vision of our wedding.  I decided to have one because I am a perfectionist and I think I would go crazy trying to do everything myself the day of.  Shes definitely helped ease the anxiety.

    Well w/ me being a planner I didn’t feel the need to get a planner. But I know some of my friends, that always work as planners, got someone else to come in and help them

    None for me, I enjoy planning and I am a very organized person.  They wouldn’t have anything to do.
