We live near the beach and while its not where our wedding will held be we used a photo of the beach covered in snow (we are getting married in January). It ties into our winter wonderland theme.  Plus, Fiance took the photo so it added a personal touch.  Also the boarder was a soft grey and the colors are silver, white and dark blue so it was close to the silver. 

PS – They went into the mail at 330 yesterday and my GMom just told me she received hers.  Is there anyone better to hear about getting it first than your GMom?

We didn’t do STDs but our wedding invites were turquoise and white which are our wedding colours.

We didn’t have our wedding colors in there (peaches & cream), but ours were just neutral colors, so they weren’t inapposite either.  

I think black and white always works!

I don’t think that it needs to be in your wedding colors. Your save the date should be fun and whatever you want it to be! The colors start with the invitation, in my opinion…

I incorporated a little bit of turquoise (our invitation’s accent color) into the STDs. Some turquoise text on the front, but more on the back of the card:
