Yes, I helped pick out the ring!

    Yes, he/she told me.

Yes, a friend/family member let it slip he/she was going to propose.

    No, I had no idea!

We discussed it a few times and came to the decision that we wanted to get married; we picked the ring together, I paid, and he did the “formal” proposal about a month later. Perhaps not as romantic as some would prefer, but it was perfect for us. 🙂

Yes and no.  We had both already kind of resigned ourselves to bachelorhood, so efore we got officially “together”, we talked about it and decided that we were both looking for either the long haul or nothing.  So I guess I knew right away that if we clicked at the beginning of the relationship, we would end up engaged – did NOT expect him to accidentally blurt out a proposal after an argument five months later!  Lol – not much of a fairytale, I know, but it’s very “us”, when I think about it.

I had no idea. We had been dating for about two weeks shy of 8 years when he proposed but anytime we even brought up marriage his response was “We’re too young.” or “You’re still in school.”  So I really didn’t expect anything until after I graduate law school… which isn’t until May 2012.  I didn’t really even expect it then… I just thought then he’d be ready to actually talk about it.  It was definitely a huge surprise when he proposed August 15, 2010.  He didn’t tell anyone until he had bought the ring, then he only told his parents and my dad.  Now we’ll be married a year before I thought he might even think about proposing. =)

I was surprised when we were in a jewelry store picking out my wedding gift and he led me over to pick out a wedding band to match my grandmother’s e-ring which he was having sized! He tried to keep it inside and lasted oh twelve hours after dropping it off at the jeweler.

    • Wedding: November 2011

I was completely taken by surprise!  When I was single I used to have “date night” on Thursday’s, I would make myself a nice dinner and have a glass of wine and watch Survivor or some other program that came on Thursday nights, all by myself (afterall, if you can’t enjoy a date with yourself who else would enjoy a date with you, right?)  So he said that since I hadn’t had date night in a while he wanted to cook me dinner on Thursday Night (November 11th) I didn’t think anything of it since he does cook dinner for me often.  So he came home from work (I get home first) and he poured me a glass of wine and told me to sit on the couch and just relax.  When dinner was ready I went into the dining room and when I pulled out the chair there was a gift bag on it, I noticed it was from a jewelry store but still didn’t think much of it, since he has bought me jewelry before.  But when I took the little square box out of the bag, for a split second it did enter my mind that this was it.  We hadn’t even been dating for 6 months.  So when I opened the box and saw the beautiful ring, I think my jaw hit the floor and I covered my eyes, when I opened my eyes and looked at him, he was down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him!  Of course I said yes, I knew from the moment I met him that he was THE one!!

We took a trip to Florida in August to visit my parents, was a chance for him to meet them.  They absoutely approved so when he called my dad to ask for his blessing he said yes and that he couldn’t be happier.  So other then my parents, no one knew what he was up to!!  It caught a lot of people by surprise… but what a great surprise!!

A few weeks or a month or so prior, I had made the comment that it would be so cool to get married on 11-11-11, and that is why he picked November 11th to propose, he said it gives us a year to plan!  And as luck would have it, the first place we both liked for the ceremony/reception was available, so we have our deposit in and the place is ours!!!

We are both very happy and very excited to spend the rest of our lives together!!

I knew it was coming but I didn’t know when.  I also was pretty sure he had a ring, but I wasn’t positive.  I didn’t vote because I don’t really fit into any of the options… I knew it was coming but I didn’t pick out the ring and nobody let it slip.

@hilsy85: Ah, my story to a T! I had nooo clue it was coming. We had talked about marriage and kids and all the big stuff, but I wasn’t expecting it for another 6 – 12 months. I was totally floored that day.

I *knew* that eventually we would get engaged, because we had spoken about it.  But I had no idea that he was going to propose at the time he did.  I didn’t even know he had purchased the ring!

Complete surprise! I was expecting a proposal some time in the next 6-12 months as we’d been together for a few years, bought a house, talking about kids in the future and so on. Honestly, I think if he hadn’t proposed when he did I would have started pushing the ring issue a bit and offering suggestions on what styles I like. As it happens he caught me off guard and picked out a lovely ring himself. The ring is not what I would have chosen myself but it’s perfect.

    It was a total surprise.

We hadn’t really discussed marriage, though we often talked about our future together and both of us were clear that we wanted to be together forever and were on the same page about our relationship/the future/kids/etc.

My husband went to visit his family in CA for Christmas and told them he was thinking about proposing in the spring. His mom was so excited she suggested they go ring shopping then (instead of in the spring when he had planned to), he bought a ring, showed it to his best friend, who told him to stop being stupid and ask me as soon as he got home after Christmas lol. He got home on a Friday night, planned to ask on Sunday – but got so nervous that he asked first thing Saturday morning right after we woke up.

What surprised me more was after we were kiteboarding and sitting on the beach, he just says out of no where “Let’s go look at some rings this afternoon”. I knew he was ready =)

I totally knew it was coming–and that was exactly how I wanted it!

Mr. BrassBand and I went ring shopping in August…he knows that I am absolutely anal about the jewelry I wear and his rationale was that since I was the one who was going to have to wear it for the rest of my life, I should have some say.  I actually found it incredibly sweet and considerate of him.  We had an awesome time and picked out the most fabulous ring I had ever seen.  All day, he had been saying “Oh, that’s pretty” or “that looks nice”, or “whatever you want is what I want, babe”, but when he saw this ring, his jaw dropped and after about five seconds, he said “that’s BEAUTIFUL!”  (score!).

Of course, then he made me wait…but I knew it was coming.  Somewhere along the line, he told me that it would be before the New Year, and I was pretty confident that it would be either my birthday (early December) or Christmas.  He wound up doing it exactly one week ago today after one of his concerts.  The guy actually got down on one knee, in the snow, in a tuxedo!  Knowing it was coming didn’t make it any less romantic or perfect–I actually had fun anticipating it and getting excited! It was amazing and even better than I dreamed it would be.  Smile
