(Closed) Did You Know What Your Groom Was Wearing?

He did, and I never even saw it.

We picked it together, but he did the rest.

We picked it, we styled it -- no surprises here!

freckledfrida :  I helped pick everything out with him but I didn’t see him dressed in it until the day of the wedding ๐Ÿ™‚ I figured swatches and the like don’t really paint the whole picture for me so I was still surprised ๐Ÿ™‚

Yup, I picked his outfit and he was happy to let me. He also knew what I was wearing before the wedding since we had to practice our first dance while I was wearing it — it was way too unwieldy for me to risk trying to dance in it for the first time on the day of.

We decided on a black suit and he took it from there.  He got a bespoke suit made at Hickey Freeman and bought Ferragamo shoes LOL.  His outfit cost WAY more than mine.  Like over twice as much.  But he can wear everything again!  A black suit and shoes never go out of style.

    lololol

So my DH went and got a custom made suit without my input (alarm bells went off, but I let it go.. maybe he’s better at buying mens clothing than womens anything, right?).  He described the choices he made and honestly, except for the number of buttons and the fabric each and every decision probably couldn’t have been worse.

It arrived, he tried it on…. he was so crestfallen.  It was terrible.

Luckily, the company had a no questions asked return policy so he returned it.

A few months later, they had a huge sale so I sat him down and we walked through the choices together, got the suit for $400 instead of $800, and he loves it.

Long story short: you and your man know if he can pick his own suit.  Talk about it together and figure it out.  If he wants to give it a go but isn’t totally sure he can handle it, go with a company with a great returns policy.

We went to Men’s Wearhouse together to pick out the tuxedos and accessories. We were advised to have his vest and bowtie match my dress, and he didn’t even want to know what color I picked for his vest. He was very adamant about not knowing any detail about my dress (even if it was white vs. ivory). He did surprise me by having an airplane pin on his lapel that I just loved (he works in the aviation industry). Some people in my family thought I would hate it, but nope ๐Ÿ™‚

He picked it but I knew what he was wearing. He wears a suit to work everyday so I trust him to pick a suit but he wanted a nicer suit. He wanted to wear tails (penguin suit) so it was different than work suits and once he’s told me was wearing that I couldn’t really wear a shorter dress like I originally planned because they would just look off. There isn’t much difference between tails so I could work out what he was wearing. He picked the accessories himself butWe picked the colours together, both our favourite colour is blue so that was quite easy. The only thing he didn’t have a say in was his cufflinks which were a present from me that he opened on the morning. I wasn’t going to see him in it but when we picked the suits up he got to try it on and he wanted to show me – he looked infinitely better on the day though ๐Ÿ˜€

We went together with his groomsmen to get all their suits made. I also bought their ties for them.

I am picking everything for him with his approval.

If my Fiance is left to do this on his own, he would probably just wear whatever is in his closet.

My husband wore a custom made suit that cost 10X more than my dress:) He asked me to come along to help pick fabrics and colors. He looked amazing.

My response would be two of your options put together. I know what he’s wearing because he told me and because we worked together to pick out our son’s suit to match his. However, I didn’t really help with picking it out and I haven’t seen it on him so I’ll still get to be pleasantly surprised the day of.

SLOBee :  Same here! My mother is making my dress and she found the satin for a steal (16 yards for about $16 from a woman whose mother owned a bridal shop but the owner had retired and was liquidating everything) and she already had a bunch of the other materials we’re using on my dress. My Fiance is having his suit custom made and it’s going to be several times the cost of my dress.

I did enjoy using some of the money I saved on my dress to splurge on a custom pair of shoes, though. tongue-out

We picked out both his suit and my dress together. We were very happy with that arrangement!
