Yes. But we have very similar tastes and he knows what I like. I like plain and simple though. It was considerably under budget and he thought I should have a stone of at least half a carat as he considered that small. He knew I wanted something much smaller though. It’s less than a quarter and I love it so much. It’s gorgeous!

“cushion or round cut, white gold” and he can do what he wants from there – I wear too many knit sweaters for anything pointy and oval would look silly on my fingers haha

However my best friend has a few photos to point him in the right direction should he ask for help, and he knows that. I think he’ll pick something beautiful though I’m not too worried

My Fiance knew that I wanted to be involved in my ring when we first started talking marriage.  I was engaged previously and my ex proposed with one of his grandmother’s rings (not her engagement ring) and there was a lot of drama around that so I wanted to be involved this time.  I knew my Fiance wanted to have the final say, which the type A in me at first found hard to give up that control, but I’m glad I ultimately did.

I liked halos as I had an asscher in a micropave halo previously.  But I (and he) did not want another step cut (I wouldn’t have turned one down but it wouldn’t have been my first choice).  We went shopping several times and he told me to send his pictures of rings I liked.  I wound up liking everything.  The original plan was for me to narrow it down to 3 rings and he would choose, but I couldn’t even do that.  My styles were all over the place.  I had everything pinned from a princess solitaire, to an oval vintage halo.

He finally said one day not to worry, that he will pick something that I love.  I kept sending him pictures, not knowing that he had bought my ring in July!  I was convinced that he was going to buy me a solitaire as that was his favorite style.

My ring took 8 weeks to come in and he gave it to me a little more than 2 weeks ago.  He picked out a round split shank halo.  I had it pinned early in my search and did try one on but I honestly am shocked (in a good way) that this is what he chose.  If you ask him, he talks about how my face would light up every time I tried halo settings so he knew he had to get me that.  The round shape was his favorite (and my diamond is stunning!) so I feel like there’s both of us in my ring.

I know it’s really hard to give up that control, OP.  Maybe your friends or family can steer him in the right direction.

My bf and I just went to go look at rings last weekend.

I had had found a ring on makeupalley’s wedding board years ago that I loved and sent him a picture of. I was convinced that it would be the ring id love forever so when I found it on brilliant earth’s website I sent him the link.

He gets really anxious about giving gifts in general bc he gets really hung up worrying if the person will like it. He told me he was looking at rings online and bc neither of us knows anything about diamonds I suggested we go together to look at some in person. Luckily we live in LA and there’s a brilliant earth brick and mortar store here. He called ahead and gave them his budget so that he didn’t have to worry about talking about that with me there.

It was a great experience – I loved the girl that helped us and I ended up picking out the one I’d been hung up on as well as a second one that I’ve gravitated to more recently. He’s going to pick between the two.

I originally was hung up on wanting it to be a complete surprise and him doing all the legwork himself, but now I’m so much happier we did it this way! It was less pressure on him, I know for sure I’ll get a ring I’ll love, AND it’ll still be a surprise 🙂

I was very clear that I wanted a round diamond, 6 prongs, plain platinum band. I showed him the standard Tiffany one for reference but didn’t expect him to buy it there. I also tried on rings with a friend and my sister knew what I wanted, and he ended up consulting with both of them. I had no idea he was considering proposing at the time, though, so I was still super shocked with the ring! It was just what I wanted but it turns out he was able to get his grandmother’s ring reset since she happened to have had a beautiful round diamond. So it is unique since it was custom and he picked it out technically, but it was the exact overall style he knew I liked. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being super clear about what you want! I would be nervous if he said he wanted a “twist” too haha. Maybe show him photos of things you definitely don’t like to try to rule those out? Either way it’s an exciting time! 🙂

i had absolutely no idea i was getting engaged. Everyone around us was either getting engaged or married Im not going to lie i was feeling left out I would make small comments like WOW look at this girls ring its beautiful and he would just tell me “yeah thats nice” but i felt like it was never going to happen little did i know he was planning it behind my back the whole time. so I had no say in any rings BUT my friends knew my style and knew he was going to propose so, he spoke to them but he made the final decision and i coudlnt be anymore happy.

On my desktop, there is a little folder called ‘e-rings”. SO requested to see pictures of rings I like, and I am more than thrilled to find pictures and show him. He knows my tastes very well, so I think he will pick out something that I will be heads over heels in love with!
