Fiance and I met on Match.com 4.5 years ago and have been engaged for 7 months! We went to the same university together (all of our family and friends know this) so I don’t exactly lie about how we met…I just don’t say and let them assume it was on campus…hehe:)
I’ve only told one friend (to encourage her to do the same!) and my mom…and Fiance has told all his fam and friends from the beginning. I’ll let others in on our secret at some point, perhaps at the wedding? 🙂
So…for those of you who made a love connection online: which dating website did you use and have you told your family and friends? If not, what do you tell them when they’ve asked?

@Ms Flamenco: We met on match over 4 years ago. I had been having bad luck with online dating and actually only agreed to a date with him because he was going to a church I had been wanting to check out, lol. Figured nothing would come out of the date, but at least I could check out his church and not have to go by myself to do so. And now I’m marrying him.
His parents didn’t know that we met online for quite some time. I think he was scared they would tease him for it. I told my parents right away how we met.

Yep – met him on eHarmony nearly 2 years ago. We’ve been very open about it since the beginning. There isn’t any stigma with it with any of our friends or family that I’m aware of.
I think it was a GREAT way for us to meet and I especially love eHarmony. When I was dating, I always felt like Match was quantity and eHarmony was quality – and you needed both! I met lots of great guys on Match too, but I was amazed at how well the personality profiles on eHarmony nailed me and my dates.
I went on tons of dates from online over the years – easily 20+. I was DBF’s first date from online! Can you believe that? I always say he doesn’t know what kind of crazy he missed out on.

@Kurzweil: I was not a fan of eharmony at all. All my “matches” were guys I was not remotely attracted to. The one guy that looked kinda cute that I started to talk to on the phone….ended up being this guy that still lived with his mom, collected mallard ducks, and asked me within 30 minutes of our phone conversation if I was an alcoholic and that I better not be lying to him.

I met Fiance on POF. First and only person I ever messaged on the site 😛

We met on eHarmony. I’ve told everyone from the beginning. Didn’t see the point cause I’m not ashamed of it.

I’m still so surprised that I met SO on Plentyoffish. The website is not known for meaningful relationships. I signed up because it was free. I had gone on some pretty terrible dates and most men were only looking for a physical relationship. I was going to delete my account when I got a message from SO. He was so sweet and he was so adorable in his profile picture I just couldn’t resist talking to him. After a couple weeks of email and phone calls we decided to meet, and the rest is history 🙂

I think you might need to add POF – that’s where we met too!! That’s a bunch of us already 🙂

We met on eHarmony, and are always very upfront about it with people. We think it is great and love telling our story!
It was DHs first time on an online dating site (he had been on about a month when we met and was going to cancel soon) and I had tried a few on and off over the years and had also been on eHarmony about a month. For me at that time in my life eHarmony fit the best and obviously worked out very well!
I am very grateful we both happened to be on there at the same time to get matched!

oops – I already voted other – I’m sure the others did too lol!!

@Snow00774: I’m pretty sure the majority of “other” votes were for POF so I made the switch…
Sorry for those who voted “other” earlier and did not meet on POF…you can always vote again 🙂
Would love to hear more stories! Share!! 🙂

My fiance and I met on ChristianCafe.com. I was a member for a while but was ready to give up as my membership was about up. He joined for the free 10 day trial. I searched for people near my home and I think I remember glancing at his profile, but there was no picture so I didn’t spend much time looking at it. He contacted me first and we started messaging then talking on the phone. When we met for the first time it confirmed all that I had fallen in love with over the phone. We’ve been together for over 2 years and I can’t wait to be his wife!
