@sarahbabs: Thank you! I knew I couldn’t get the alterations at David’s Bridal because they will not alter a dress if it changes the style, that’s what I was told. I asked around to coworkers and friends and found a seamstress that way. She was good but I tthought expensive. It cost $250.00 for the alterations on a $500.00 gown, a little high but worth it in the end.

What a great thread.  I’m doing this, because I love the gown, color, fabric.

First photo is what I purchased.

I’m 1. Taking off the lace up in the front. 2. Adding tulle to the train, maybe attached to a belt around the waist. 3. Adding straps in tulle or lace, or maybe sheer all over sleeveless top.

Second photos are examples of what I’d like seamstress to do.  I’d love to be talented enough to do it myself, but no.  I’ll be asking the seamstress where I bought my gown to do it.

The tulle just came in, its in pink blush and I am also curious to see if its a match.  I’m so glad you posted the photos – alot of the add ons look great.

I love sweethearts and the straps on those gowns.  Sometimes they add something to it.

@Happilyeverafter – are you also changing the neckline to straight across from sweetheart?

I’d be so glad to hear feedback on what you think on the top of this gown…straps or whole top overlay like the sottero gown (woman black ponytail).  I considered a one shoulder tulle as well (see below)..I am looking for help on this, and my gown will be in mid August.

Belt – sparkly or would a flower belt be better? Like Vera Wang’s White at DB – pink fflower that is used in her tulle ball gown and some others…

Loribeth – you are so lucky you can do this yourself!  I love your straps!

Hi Blushing!  They are by Amy Kushel.  If you go to her website, they list where her stores are.  If there isn’t one close enough, you can call any of them and order it to be sent to you.  I’ll be going to ny local one in Ann Arbor MI soon and I could take a better photo for you.  What color?

I am altering mine to be more fit & flare.  Right now it’s A-line: (shown on model)

Here is a pic when I first got the dress in:

Here is a pic from Saturday after 1 layer of tulle was removed.  NO other changes have been made yet, but the hips will be taken in to make it more fit & flare

Will show the final pic next month when all the changes have been made!  It will look something like this, but better 🙂

I said “other” — my dress is this 2-in-1 from DB:

and I am considering having it altered into one piece (I really hate the short “under” dress so I’d only want to wear it in its long form anyway) to prevent skirt slipping and so I’d be able to add buttons over the zipper in back (as it is, the under dress has a zipper and the outer skirt has a zipper, so adding buttons to that would be complicated). Plus it’s more fun to put on a full one-piece ballgown than it is to put on a short party dress and then slip a skirt over it, y’know? 😛

I don’t know if I’ll have them do this at DB or if I’ll do it myself — it’s probably fairly simple to do (remove zippers, sew outer skirt onto inner dress, sew new zipper + buttons back into dress) but I don’t know if I have the time to do that or the skill. But it will probably cost an arm and a leg to do at DB…we’ll see.
