So I have been pondering this for months…do people actually leave the reception in their wedding gown and then take it off at the hotel? I do not want a reception dress because I lovelovelove my gown and want to wear it the whole night, plus my reception is at the same location as the ceremony. But I feel weird getting into the limo and walking through the hotel in my full on wedding gown. Do people usually do that?? Or should I get a cute little lacy dress and change into it right before leaving?

Every wedding I’ve been to the bride left in her wedding gown. I think going away outfits sort of went by the wayside a while ago now but if you did want to do that I think it would be cool! Like in Father of the Bride!
I actually look forward to sashaying through our hotel lobby in my wedding dress though, lol. Look at meeeee!

I’ve been considering a getaway dress myself, but mainly because we’re on a 6am flight to St. Lucia the next day and I don’t want to have to worry about how my wedding dress is getting home! So much easier to take it off at the wedding & send it home with my Maid/Matron of Honor.

Eh it wasn’t a huge deal no one is going to blink an eye that you are wearing a wedding dress. They will just think oh they got married and go on with business. Personally I found it a waste of money to change into a different dress when the actual wedding dress was enough money as it was

Yes. Every wedding I have been in, the bride has worn her dress in the limo/car/bus to the hotel. Our hotel room was right upstairs so it wasn’t an issue for me.
I only would have considered changing if we were going straight to the airport- even then I may have worn it through security 🙂
I wouldn’t worry about walking through the hotel- I went and got ice cream with mine and have gone to Panera and Starbucks with others.

I’m not going too – there really isn’t any place to change at our reception venue.

emilythehutt: I changed at the end of the reception, because we were going on our honeymoon the next day (well in effect the honeymoon began that night at the hotel). And I certainly didn’t want my mother coming to the honeymoon suite the next morning to collect it!
(And even if I wanted to take the dress on my honeymoon, we couldn’t take DH’s tux because it was hired).

I’m leaving in mine and we are going by my parents so I can change before we go to the hotel. I don’t want grand exit pictures without my beautiful dress!

Not married yet, but I plan on buying a cute, inexpensive “exit dress” that I will change into right before I leave the reception. I am planning on this because, 1) I don’t wanna worry about how my wedding dress will get home once I leave on my honeymoon the following morning, and 2) My dress is corset-backed and I don’t think my new-hubby will have enough patience to wait 10 minutes while I unlace it once the reach our room! haha

emilythehutt: We stayed at a cabin onsite at our venue, so my husband and I stumbled drunk and barefoot to the cabin at about 3 am – definitely still in our wedding clothes. In fact, when we woke up fairly hungover the next morning (already slightly late for our farewell brunch), all I had in the cabin to wear was my wedding dress. So yup, I did the walk of shame at our wedding venue in my wedding dress – lol! Luckily it was a stretchy comfy dress.
I think it’d be fun to roll into your hotel in your wedding gear. Literally a once in a lifetime opportunity (hopefully!).

emilythehutt: Our wedding is coming up but I voted ‘leave in my wedding gown’ as that’s what I plan to do! I also thought about walking through the hotel in it too but hey, it’s the only time i’ll get to wear it, might as well make the most of it! We’re having an evening reception and it will be close to midnight when we get to the hotel so it’ll probably be fairly quiet anyway!
I’m guessing people do it all the time, every wedding i’ve been to the bride has left in her dress!

I will be leaving in mine, getting on a ferry, then walking through the city to our hotel. I feel like this is one time in my life I get to be all “LOOK AT ME!! I’m a BRIDE!!!” so I’m darn well going to show off my amazing dress!

Thanks everyone for the affirmation. You just saved me 50-100 anyway lol! You are right, might as well rock that dress i paid good money for as many hours as I can get out of it!

emilythehutt: We had to help clean up the venue. I ditched that ballgown so quickly…(changed into a sundress)
