@southsun:  Nope. I didn’t even announce my engagement on facebook. I have a lot of facebook friends, and I didn’t think it was any of their business, plus, most probably would not care.

Fi and I did send about 50 emails and made 6+ phone calls to let people important to us know.

I posted a pic of the two of us with me flashing my hand, but not a close up – you can hardly see the ring. The excitement on our faces was the point of the pic, not the ring.

I don’t mind if others do though, unless its like 749163493 pics of your damn ring.

Yes. If my Facebook friends are offended by that, I don’t want them as friends in any capacity. I have every right to be happy about getting married and that includes talking about it/posting pictures about it. If I can’t tell my friends, who the hell am I suppose to tell about it?

Yep!  In my circle of friends it’s pretty weird to NOT post a picture of the ring.  Everyone asks if you don’t post it immediately so you’re pressured into doing so soon after anyway.  Why not?  I was excited to show it off and FI was SO PROUD of it, picking it out himself and all!

Nope. I have people on my fb who I know, but I’m not overly familiar with. I know, ironic isn’t it?

Yes I had one posted for about 6 mo then took it down.  Everyone was asking for a pic so it was just easier that way.

This probably also depends on how you use Facebook. I don’t have FB friends that I don’t know personally or professionally. I have 65 friends. I post personal stuff on FB because for my friends and I, we use it as a way to keep in touch and talk about our lives. Personal stuff is  expected in my circle. It would be considered rude and weird to not talk about something as huge as getting married.

Yes, I did. The majority of my FB friends are my family (like 200 of them) and I had many people request to see the ring.

Yep! I was so excited to post a pic!

I am also that person who, when friends get engaged, I’m all, “Where’s the riiiing piiiic?!?!” lol. I love seeing people’s pretties!!

@southsun:  No, for multiple reasons :

    – I don’t have tons of people on my FB account, mostly family. I wanted to announce our engagement in real life, not over Facebook. I didn’t even change my status yet and we’ve been engaged to be married for almost a year already.

    – It would have felt awkward, kinda like bragging (not that I have a big ring or anything, it was very very unexpensive, but I rarely post things like that about myself on FB, I didn’t feel comfortable doing it).

    – I don’t even have a picture of myself on Facebook. A pic of my hand with a ring would have been weird.

    – I didn’t want people asking 10 000 questions about our wedding, especially since we were just getting started planning, and can’t afford to invite everyone on FB.

    – For people who are not in my family : it’s just not of their business …

Nope – I announced our engagement but didn’t post a photo of my ring. I showed people in real life when asked, but to me getting engaged wasn’t all about the ring.
