I’m about to buy a gift for the first wedding I’m attending since my own… and it’s made me think about how I’m going to gift the present. In the past, I liked to bring the gift… figuring it would be fun to open the gift with all the other presents. But, having gone through the process, I loved getting gifts gradually, as they were sent online.
So, hive, for those that have gone through it – what do you prefer? To receive via an online purchase or as a pretty package (or not so pretty) at the wedding?

our wedding is next month, but i am really liking to get gifts through the mail (so i can peek) but also since the [future] hubby is leaving a few days after the wedding for military stuff, id rather open the gifts WITH him before the wedding so we dont have to rush after the wedding with gifts and him packing up and saying goodbye to guests, etc.
but it would be cool to get a gift or two at the wedding – just not big bulky stuff like pots and pans.

The other thing I’m trying to decide is how early to buy it (if I mail it) …. the wedding isn’t for 6 weeks – invites were just sent out… so I don’t want to be super early about it – but at the same time, would love to just have it taken care of….

I’ve loved getting them in the mail 🙂 It’s like my birthday once a week, lol. I got some over a month ago and have been getting more and more as it gets closer. I’ve even gotten a couple from people who I know will be there. I never even knew about sending your gift ahead of time but it totally makes sense to me!
We’ll see about after. I’m sure it will be fun. My parents are going to leave all of the gifts in our living room so we get to open them when we get home from the honeymoon 😀 It’s gonna be fun!

It was so much better picking ours up from the home store for our registry or getting them by mail. Lugging the gifts people brought to the wedding home afterwards was too much of a chore.

We had a few things brought to our wedding that we opened the day after, right after our brunch. But I really preferred getting things sent to our house!

Not married yet, but I’d prefer to get mine at the wedding.

Mine just started coming in the mail yesterday and it is like freaking christmas every day when I come home. Yesterday we got our silver cake knife set and today we got 3 really expensive pans that I can’t believe anyone bought us 🙂 It’s super fun having it stretched out for me plus then I can find places to put anything over time. instead of at once after the wedding.

We’re getting married in Rhode Island but live in DC. We had our registry automatically ship the items to our DC address and we’ve loved it so far. It will definitely make it easier for our trip back to DC from the honeymoon.

We got married 3000 miles away from where we live, so we really, really preferred to get gifts in the mail. It was really tough to transport the few gifts that people brought to the wedding for us.

I’d discourage bringing a gift to the wedding…. I mean logistically, transporting a lot of gifts can be stressful, and it’s just one more thing for the couple and their family to worry about. I actually usually just send a card with a check to the couple’s house, but if I were to give a gift, I’d definitely send it.
