Just a little poll out of curiosity. We just booked our honeymoon and it was about $1k more than I really wanted to spend. I kinda got swept up in it and almost immediately felt some regret. With all of the expenses from the wedding(we are covering this whole shindig ourselves), did we really need to spend $4700 on a honeymoon? Would 5 days have been enough? Did we really need the suite with the pool out the door?
For the record, in 6 years of being together, we’ve really only got on one vacation other than visiting our summer homes in neighboring states, so I was adament on making it something to remember, esp since we will be TTC right after the wedding so we might not have the chance in the next few years. We are getting a lot for our money with 7 nights at Zoetry Wellness Spa Resort in Riviera Maya in a typical all inclusive (although we can take a free shuttle to and from the 7 neighboring resorts to eat/drink there as well convered under our AI) and then we qualified for the complimentary extra honeymoon package because of the room we are staying in which includes:
- Unpacking and pressing service for couple upon arrival
- Large floral arrangement in the suite
- Specialty spa basket in room upon arrival
- Sunrise champagne breakfast in bed or on the terrace of their room
- Nightly lavish chocolate turndown service
- Romantic surprise dinner on the beach for the couple with live music
- Special turndown service one evening with rose petals, scented oil bubble bath and the couple’s favorite drink
- Specialty couple’s massage (80 minutes)
- 10% discount on all Spa treatments for the couple throughout their stay (product purchases not included)
- Complimentary anniversary night (1 complimentary night with a 4-night minimum return stay over their first anniversary
- Private catamaran sail with beverages (1 ½ hours) exclusively at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita
This package is complimentary with a seven night stay in an Ocean Front Lover Suite with Plunge Pool or higher room category. If the couple does not meet the requirements to receive this package complimentary, it may be purchased for $1,500 USD.
Anybody else feel guilty after booking? Am I just being crazy? Don’t get me wrong, I cannot wait and am so so so excited but I still can’t help but feel a bit guilty.

no way! it is our first big vacatioh alone together and we are planning TTC shortly after so likely will be the last one for a while! We rarely ever splurge on ourselves, so this is our chance and we’re taking it!

Me and my Fiance are planning on spending around $6000. We’re renting a car and hotel hopping to all kinds of places we want to go. It’s going to be about 12 days long.
So far we are staying 3 nights at a casino that is somewhat nearby :
The we’ll drive over to the next state, and spend 3 nights at Sybaris – Indoor heated private pool for the win!
Then we’ll head to chicago, and stay, eat and dine our butts off!
I don’t feel guilty because it’s our freaking honeymoon! We’re only going to have a honeymoon once [Sure, we could have a second or third, but it’ll never be the first again!]. We want to enjoy it.

@MrsWBS: That is exactly how I feel and have felt but now that it is booked I all of a sudden feel bad! Tell me this will go away, LOL! I can’t “vacation” in wisconsin and michigan forever!

I think you shouldn’t worry about the money. You earned the money right? Then spend it how you feel… and please please enjoy the entire honeymoon!!!! It sounds wonderful 😀 😀

Well I originally wanted to spend around $5000 but now I am thinking of increasing my budget to spend $7000 or $8000. I would like to TTC either shortly after or about a year after…so I think it might be reasonable to spend more than I originally wanted because of that fact…! So, I wouldn’t worry about it. You only get one honeymoon, and you two have barely taken a vacation!

We spent a lot on our honeymoon, but we did three countries in Europe. We had the most amazing time and definitely don’t regret it one bit! If you haven’t experienced a really, amazing vacation together, I say seize the day, you only get one honeymoon!
@jenilynevette The ground effects on that bed are hysterical!

@ellbell921: stop thinking about what you could have done with the money. Just accept it is gone, and realize it won’t take that long to make that money back. It’s just money – you can’t take it with you when you’re gone, so there’s no sense in NOT spending it!

I did feel guilty at first, but I don’t regret it one bit!! It honestly was the trip of a lifetime. We went over our budget and spent about $6K at all an inclusive beach resort. It was amazing and perfect and I am still day dreaming 3 months later.

Heh, just as this thread popped up I was in the middle of a conversation with Fiance about how guilty I was feeling about booking a honeymoon to Thailand! Glad to see there’s other bees with similar guilt-trips 🙂 But we all deserve it right?

We went on my dream honeymoon. I never had a dream wedding…just a dream honeymoon 🙂 So I definitely got caught up in everything. I do feel a little guilty about how much we spent. But then I remember that it was worth it and when else would I be able to justify spending that much on a vacation!? So no regrets!

I’ll be lucky if our honeymoon comes in under 10,000… but it’s a once in a lifetime thing (hopefully) and we are going to hve 3 weeks of epic adventure and I am trying to focus on that and not the fact that that’s a ton of money.
