I know this is an old board I’m hoping someone sees this. My ring appraised for HALF what he paid!!! So now we have to go and hope they will do something about it. We are outside of the 30 day period for returns because he held onto it for 2 weeks and then it took is 2 1/2 weeks to get a day off together to take it. Now we don’t know if the place we got it from duped us, switched the diamond, or what. And, how we are going to go about getting it fixed replaced or returned 🙁

@Jen329: Go back to your appraiser and ask why specifically it was appraised so low compared to the price you paid. According to the appraisal documents, did the appraiser disagree with the specs of the diamond? Was it because of the cut quality of the diamond or maybe the quality of the setting? His opinions on the specs should have been noted in his report
An appraiser worth his salt will be able and willing to explain why he valued it the way he did. What was the diamond specs and how much did your Fiance pay?
If your appraiser is confident that the specs are different and if your diamond wasn’t certified by any lab to begin with, you can bring the appraisal into the store and ask for a refund since the ring wasn’t what it was stated to be when sold. I think that’s a legitimate reason for wanting a return, but be prepared for the store to get defensive (or even suggest that the stone might have been switched)
