I went with my mom, my Future Mother-In-Law, and my Maid/Matron of Honor. It was really important to me to have both moms there, and having my Maid/Matron of Honor was a major plus. They were a great few to bring.

My mom, two aunts and grandmother all came.

I went with my in-laws and mom just to look at dresses the first time. The next time I went with my Fiance. The time after that just my mom. The following time with my Maid/Matron of Honor. When I finally purchased my dress I was by myself.
I’m glad I got to go with my Future Mother-In-Law that one time because a year later she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.
My mom is so laid back that going with her alone didn’t ever make me feel like there was one certain dress. She would always say “If you like it….” I guess I kind of hoped that I would have a SYTTD moment where we’re both crying and saying “This is my dress” and then we hug.
I got more of a “THIS IS THE DRESS” when I went by myself. So it is what it is.

I went to three shops with my Sister and we have completly differant tastes. The one thing I loved about a dress she thought was tacky or too overstated. We did find a dress or two that where great but not AMAZING!
My Hubby to Be took me to a new store one weekend and we tried on a few dresses. And thats when we found the ONE!! It was the best feeling to share that moment with him, he nearly fainted!

I went a couple times with just my mom. Sure enough the one time I went with a couple girl friends “just for fun,” that was the time I found my dress. LOL!

I went with my Mom and two cousins who are Maid/Matron of Honor & Bridesmaid. Worked out great! I invited all of my bridesmaids to come with but most could not make it.

I went a couple of times alone, and a couple of times with girlfriends (just one at a time, I don’t think I could handle having an entire entourage). I think I prefer going solo, but the problem is a lot of salons won’t let you take photos and then it’s hard to get a second opinion.
I wish I’d had the chance to go dress shopping with my mum, but I live overseas so it’s hard.

@Creiddylad: Mom and sister. Once i picked the actual dress, I invited friends and my grandmother to come with me the day i was purchasing. My mind was made up and they knew it was the dress – thus I was not worried about differing opinions. It worked out great.

@Creiddylad: I went alone the first time just to get a feel without anyone else’s opinions. My 2nd try I took my sister (my moh) and fell in love with my dress. I ended up purchasing that day. I am planning on taking my grandma and mom to the fitting.. I had no intentions on buying that day but it just sorta happened. I knew it was for me and I can’t wait to show them !

@Creiddylad: I haven’t gone dress shopping yet, but I’m planning on taking my mum and my fiance’s mum with me. I think it’s going to be good – although they get along, they are surprisingly different women. My mum can tend to be very blunt, but very honest (not quite critical – but almost), whereas my fiance’s mum is so lovely and sweet (without sugar-coating things too much just to be nice). Hopefully I can pick something in one trip!
I’ll probably invite my sisters and my fiance’s sister too, because I think they’d feel a bit left out, but I won’t mind just going with the mums if they aren’t able to join us.

@Creiddylad: I went a few times by myself, once with two of my bridesmaids, once with a childhood friend, once with my Future Mother-In-Law & FFSIL (FBIL’s girlfriend) and three or four times with my mom (who paid for my dress). For the most part, I researched dresses by myself (or with the childhood friend), and then took my bridesmaids / mom back to see ones that I actually liked. I went dress shopping with the futures as a courtesy.
Wow, I’ve never thought it all out like that – I can’t believe how many times I went!!

@Creiddylad: I went dress shopping by myself, that way the only opinion that mattered was mine and I didn’t have a ton of people in my head saying “I don’t like that” etc. After I chose my dress, I took my mother in law and my fiances grandmother to see the dress (my mom was working and has seen pictures of me in the dress before I took fiances relatives). They all love the dress just as much as I do! It was so much easier and less stress for me personally! Just gotta do with what you feel comfortable with!

I took one friend with me on each trip. I went on three shopping trips total. I wouldn’t take more than one or two people at the most.

My mom has fantastic taste and is very fashionable. At the same time, she respects that I’m not particularly trendy and prefer understated classic looks. I couldn’t imagine dress shopping with anyone else because I know my friends will just tell me I look amazing in everything, even if it’s not true. I can count on my mom telling me the truth.
One problem is that my mom doesn’t understand having a budget. She told one consultant that she “doesn’t care if the dress is $1300 or $13,000” and that is a major problem! Obviously, the consultants just see dollar signs, and completely ignore my pleas for a budget dress. I plan on calling the next shop we go to before the appointment to set my budget in stone before my mom and I show up.
