I went with two friends the first time, with my mom, grandma, and BFF the second time, and with one friend the third time. Then when I went to buy the dress I’d selected on trip #3, I brought my BFF–I also showed pictures to my mom before I bought it.
Going with friends the first time was nice, because I was really nervous and also felt weird about TRYING ON WEDDING DRESSES, lol. It was, like, too much of a big deal. Having a couple of funny friends made it less intimidating.
When I went to try on a different dress last week because I had dress regret, I went alone! No one knows I did that except the bee, because I fell back in love with my original dress and am keeping it, whew.

I initially went with my mom and her sister when she was in town visiting us, which was great. Loved being able to have my aunt there for some of it. All of the other times, I went with just my mom. I didn’t want a million and one opinions. I only wanted two, mine and my moms. They were the only opinions that mattered to me regarding my dress hunt and I loved bonding with my mom over it. We’re very close, though, so I can imagine if one wasn’t entirely close to their mother, they’d want other friends/relatives there to help diffuse the situation.

@letigre: Yikes, if you are paying for it, not her, then that is indeed a major problem!!! I cannot imagine spending $13,000 on a DRESS!!!
I think I am going to go look for fabric at a really special fabric shop I know of with my two girlfriends, and since I have no money for buying expensive silk fabric right now, I’ll just look at what the place has, and ask my mom to go with me when I actually am ready to buy fabric.
It’s great that everyone is relating what they did! Thank you, everybody!

Just me and my Mama and it was lovely. It was a really nice bonding experience. I know that a few of my aunts would have liked to come but i think it was really special with just my Mom and myself and i know that she was very happy with it being just us.

Just my mom and my bestfriend. They are the only one who’s seen my dress.

@Creiddylad: are you making your dress? I have a lot of experience with this, and honestly, sometimes buying premium fabrics will cost similarly to buying off the rack.
If you’re shopping in a fashion district, ask if they do discounts for businesses. Usually you’ll need to register a business as a client, but any friend that has a business license/sole proprietorship/certificate of incorporation can register to receive the discount for you.

One appointment and found my dress. I only wanted to be with my mom. I get overwhelmed easily. It was a wonderful experience!

The 1st time I went dress shopping I just went with my Maid/Matron of Honor. The second time I went with my Maid/Matron of Honor and a older friend. After I narrow down two dresses I really liked I asked for my mother opinion. My mom can be a little much sometimes so I didn’t want to include her in picking my dress until after I found the dress of my dreams.

I went with Maid/Matron of Honor and her niece who was my Day of Corninator. But I did also go with my mom to show her the dresses that I was contending.

The first time, my 2 bridesmaids and I just wandered into a store while we were out having lunch. We weren’t intending to shop seriously, but we did find a dress we really liked, so we ended up calling my mom for her to come take a look at it.
The second time, my mom and my maid of honor made plans in advance to go shopping with me. I ended up ordering my dress then.

@Creiddylad: I’m taking my mom, my sisters and my dad. Oh yeah… family time! My mom doesn’t want my dad there because she thinks it’s mother-daughter time but I’m going to have to let her know what’s up. Boo ya momma! Daddy’s coming too!

There are 2 things I said I’d absolutely do because I know they mean a lot to my parents. This is one of them. I won’t go dress shopping without my mum.
My mum and I are really close, so it makes it easy.

I went with my mom, who has great taste. The posse thing was not for me. It’s also not efficient when you are trying to get a lot done in a short amount of time.
