Our original dress budget was $1,000 and we found a dress I liked but wasn’t in love with that we were going to purchase. It had elements I liked and was flattering but wasn’t the all lace, victorian, romantic dress I’d been wanting for forever. My father ended up stretching the budget when he saw how disappointed that I was that those dresses are just out of that price range due to material cost. The dress itself wasn’t much more, $1,200, but to add cap sleeves (dad’s preference), do the custom length hem (all lace dress), order it in champagne with ivory lace overlay, then taxes it came to just under $1,500. My dress is double what the budgeting tool says it should cost. But in the end my parents who are paying for the wedding don’t care. We’ll make it work. Your photos and video are the only thing you walk away with the day after the wedding. There are plenty of places to cut cost in the budget. But that said, there’s a difference between a few hundred over budget and $3,000 over budget.
