We delayed TTC for about a year because we were in the process of buying a house and both had new jobs- it was just too much.  Plus I had a really good opportunity to present in a conference in Europe, and we decided to turn it into a honeymoon trip since we only took a weekend trip after we got married.

Like you, we planned our TTC perfectly.  I teach during the year, and have no paid maternity leave.  I have mid-May to late August off, so it would be ideal to have a kid while I’m off, and to be able to have the most time at home with the kid before I have to go back.   We started TTC in late August, which would have given us a late May baby, but we just finished month 2 and still not pregnant.  No May or June baby for us.  We still have the next 2 months to have a summer baby, but it makes the situation have a lot of pressure.  I don’t regret waiting until after Europe- I wouldn’t have enjoyed the trip as much if we TTC or if I were pregnant, but in retrospect if it weren’t for that trip, I may have started earlier.  High school health class makes you feel like it is super easy to get pregnant and thus you can plan the due date, but alas that is not the case.   If you both feel ready I would start know, because there is no telling how long it will take.
