I think it would be fine, provided you gave yourself TONS of extra time.  But you could always do first look/pictures in DC and then take a bus/van with your bridal party and relax on the way to the venue.  It would just mess up a lot of your timing stuff, because heaven forbid there was an accident and you were late.

Have you thought about dressing up before or after the wedding and doing portraits in DC?  I know it’s not quite the same, but if all you care about is pictures, it might be worth it to do a separate session and have less stress on your wedding day.

I would find that very stressful, but that’s just me. We also got married an hour away from home but stayed there the day before. To make sure you make it there in time, I would leave probably 2.5-3 hours before the ceremony.  That means would have to wake up REALLY early, have your hair and makeup done and finish your photos several hours before the ceremony. Then you’ll need to be sitting in your dress, hair and makeup for several hours, possibly sweating in the car etc. I don’t how traffic is to get out of DC but I had guests who left with plenty of time to spare but got stuck in traffic and missed the ceremony.

Like a PP said, make sure you have plenty of time in between just in case of traffic or any other unforseen events.. We are getting married 2 1/2 hours away but honestly I think even if it was just an hour or so away I’d still want to be there the day before.. But I’m a control freak & I’d want to make sure everything was in order.
