watcherofthestars: It *should* have been plenty of time for the lilies to open but sadly it wasn’t because we had zero sun for the week before the wedding. My bulk flowers came on Tuesday, and the bouquets came on Wednesday.
Hydrating the flowers was somewhat time consuming but wasn’t difficult at all. If I had had a second person to help, it would have taken much less time. I was prepared with ten five gallon buckets and clippers. The flowers came with flower food but if they hadn’t, I would have used my favorite DIY flower food: 1 tbs sugar, 1 tbs vodka per gallon water. Works like a charm.
I worked at the sink, trimming stems under water. To keep the flowers at their freshest, I kept them in the buckets in a room with a window AC unit on as cold as it could go. Worked perfectly.
With the roses, I trimmed any remaining thorns (most were gone already), and stripped the foliage. I also stripped any damaged petals from the outside (they are guard petals and are meant to be removed).
Yes eucalyptus is annoying, but so was all the other greenery was on woody stems. I had good shears to it was fine, honestly.
I literally did it all myself and it was time consuming but it was not difficult at all.

Reading this thread – I think I will definitely go wholesale for flowers. I don’t really care about flowers that much at all so they will be minimal. Will just need them for the cake table and the guest tables. I love the look of white – so I’m thinking white roses and hydrangeas. Have to start researching “budget” white flowers. 🙂

- Wedding: May 2015 - Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception / Courtyard Marriott Legacy Ballroom
I went with Fifty Flower and my first set of flowers should be arriving tomorrow! Then I have three sets arriving on Thursday. So far, the experience has been great – there was one type of hydrangea I ordered that wasn’t the best quality, and they contacted me right away with pictures of the hydrangeas we could use as substitutions – I just have to wait to see what quality of flowers I get FYI – I chose Fifty Flowers because they were the only wholesale flower place that had the flowers I wanted. We also looked into local florists, but with Mother’s Day being this weekend, they weren’t able to guarantee the flowers I wanted.

Following thread to see others DIY bouquets from bulk flowers. I’m considering fiftyflowers and would love some more feedback on them!
