I’m going to be in the delivery room with my friend while she’s having her baby, and I’m wondering if there’s anything I could bring for her that might make the experience better, or that she might want right after having her baby. Thoughts?

When I had my kids I just wanted a nap, and to have my baby with me. A few hours later I was starving…so maybe food after awhile. But mainly I wanted peace. During labor I tried sleeping or resting with the lights off and had no interest in attempting to focus on anything.

That’s so sweet of you! I haven’t had kids yet, so I don’t know from experience, but I think a really comfy pillow would be a nice gift. Maybe some chocolate if she likes that, or a different favorite candy?

A few things that might be nice is a nap(I couldnt sleep due to adrenaline but I wish I could) and a good meal (I didnt eat for over 24 hours and although I had no appetite it was nice to have a good meal nearby)… biggest thing is support… be her support because that is huge

I wanted Quiznos and a nap. I really wanted flowers too. I don’t know why.

Food!!! I had a cesarean so I couldn’t eat before and they kept me on a liquid diet for a little while after. As soon as I got the OK all I wanted was a sandwhich, seriously. Right after she delivers she will probably just want sleep and baby time.

Flowers are a lovely gesture. I ended up having a c-section and couldn’t eat anything for 24 hours, but having coconut water was amazing! A nice nutritious meal would probably be good- a hearty soup or something like that!

All I wanted after giving birth was a ton of Sprite and to be out of the hospital. I think the best thing someone could have given me was a text message that said “I’ll run to any store or restaurant and grab whatever you want. What can I get you?” One of our family acquaintances asked what I needed(a Big Mac)brought it to me, and stayed in the hospital room less than five minutes. He brought food AND didn’t linger for an hour?! I barely even know that man and I will love him for the rest of my life.

I brought my Future Sister-In-Law a gourmet french toast flavored cupcake after she gave birth, she loved it!

I really wanted a piece of carrot cake!

Ask her if she wants her favorite food! Our first baby is due in July and I’ve been quite cautious about what I eat during pregnancy so I already have plans for what I want to have immediately afterwards!

I just wanted a nap and a shower…not sure you can help her with that. 🙂

Food. That’s all I wanted. Other than I wanted alone time with my husband and new baby.
