Did you / will you take your rings on your honeymoon or a stand in?

I took a stand in and it was awesome!

I never take my wedding set with me if I’m going on a trip that involves a lot of water activities or a lot of outdoor type activities, I have a thick pretty heavy sterling silver band that I wore on our honeymoon, and when we went to Hawaii recently. I just don’t like the idea of swimming with them on or leaving them in my rental…. I guess it didn’t help that prior to going to Hawaii I watched all these videos of these guys that find ring after ring in the ocean!

We were once on a snorkel boat with a couple on their honeymoon.  On the very first snorkel, the husband lost his wedding band in the water.  We learned from this and do not take our rings into the water!  Whenever we travel out of the country, I leave my engagement ring at home.  I wear a plain wedding band and leave that in the hotel safe during activities.

Mine doesn’t  come off easily but I’d be hesitant in the water and would likely wear my silicone band. I also don’t like sunscreen and stuff getting on it. But generally speaking I wear my ring for any and all activities and it’s not large enough to be concerned for safety. I’d bring my ring but leave it in the safe for water excursions, but I’d hate not having it for dinner and other things!

Yes I wore mine, but we didn’t do anything water based.

When I was engaged I wore a cheap stand in ring for swimming and stuff like that. But now I’m married I never wear it, and just wear the wedding ring alone

We travel quite a bit and I would never want to risk losing my engagement ring or being a target of theft. So on beach type vacations, we both have silicone rings (they are comfortable and they have nice colors to choose from) and if we go to Europe, we both only wear our wedding bands.

I feel the need to clarify (it wouldn’t let me hit reply to the specific poster), but I definitely know that people in Europe wear jewlery. I figure that I look pretty solidly “midwestern American tourist”, and that that could make me a target for theft. I would feel the same in New York/New Orleans/LA/etc.

I bought a $10 CZ and sterling stand-in set on amazon specifically for the honeymoon. I knew I’d want to be looking at a ring with a band on it, and I have a knack for losing things on vacation.

We went on a cruise and we took our actual wedding rings. I wasn’t really concerned at all, and I had no reason to be. We did a lot of swimming. I think if your bands aren’t really sized appropriately and they are too big, I wouldn’t risk it, but ours fit perfectly and we weren’t worried.

Obviously, nothing happened to them lol

We’ll be leaving for Italy the day after our wedding (Rome/Tuscany/Amalfi Coast) and we did get silicone bands, but it would make me sad to leave my set at home especially as I’ll have just started wearing the band. I guess I could leave my engagement ring and just take my band. But my band is a 3/4 eternity so it’s sparkly as well, although 1.5 mm so the diamonds are tiny. We’re staying in a couple of hotels but mostly Airbnbs that won’t have safes. I currently wear my e-ring while kayaking and it’s fine, and it will fit even tighter once I have my band. I’m mostly concerned about whether I’d be a target for mugging, although some quick Googling shows you should be more worried about pickpockets as opposed to someone grabbing the ring off your finger.

i wore mine most of the time but left it in a safe in the room while swimming.  my brother in law lost his ring while swimming when it slipped off his finger and i didn’t think it was worth the risk!

We took our rings on our mini-moon and we will take them on our regular honeymoon coming up. We left them in the hotel safe while we went to the pool and wore silicone ones to the pool. We have a lake house as well and we actually just leave silicone rings down there for any time we are out on the boat or floating.

Just get some silicone rings (I love the enso ones, the rose gold is so pretty!) and leave your real rings in the safe while you are out doing your activities.

I don’t wear my ring during any risky activities. I also have a moral issue of travelling to very poor countries and wearing a piece worth more than some people will make in their lifetime. I dunno, feels off to me.

I’d think you’re fine wearing it ON the cruise, but I personally wouldn’t wear it snorkling or swimming. You’re not any less married without a ring!

beeyouteefal :  I have the same moral issue, and I get grumpy at the idea of cheapy stand-ins because fast fashion (which includes cheap jewelry) is ethically awful (sweat-shops and the production is bad for the environment) and puts more unnecessary junk out there (also bad for the environment). We can be sticks in the mud together.
