@stephko99:  ah! I Loved that movie but only saw it once.

If you have time you should share some parts from the movie. I can’t remember.

Im going to cry my eyes out reading my own vows lol this may not be a good idea, but it feels best.

@stephko99:  We wrote our entire ceremony because we’re not religious and wanted it to reflect that.  Here are our vows, I know they’re a little lengthy but our officiant said as long as we said them to each other instead of him reading and us repeating we’d b fine:

From this day on I, Michelle, take you, Doug, to be my husband.

I vow to honor, respect and cherish you for all that you are and all that you will become.

I will live with you and laugh with you.

I will stand by your side and sleep in your arms.

I vow to be open and honest, to both speak and listen.

I will give you my love freely and unconditionally.

Though life may not always be as perfect as it is at this moment, I vow to always keep my love for you as loyal and pure as it is today.

In poverty I will do all that I can to make our love rich and in wealth I will never let our love grow poor.

These things I pledge to you today, and all the days of my life.

EDIT: I should mention we didn’t think these up, we copie-pastad a tone of ceremonies and vows we liked that we’d found online ๐Ÿ™‚  I’m not that creative to do this on my own

We wrote ours. I just read them last night because I printed them out for my scrapbook and I got all teary eyed. His were longer and I would say a little more heartfelt because he wrote them the day of. He had everyone in the audience teary eyed. Then it was my turn and they were really just short and sweet. So I felt like they weren’t as good, but he said he liked them.

We did not write our own, because we found some very simple and elegant vows that said what we were feeling perfectly.   I love hearing what people write for their vows, it’s always interesting to see where their minds and hearts go…one thing that irks me, when they write their own vows, and they aren’t vows, there’s not promises or oaths, just a story about whatever and an “I love you.”  which is nice, but isn’t a vow…you know?

I got engaged in Feb 2012 and wrote my vows in April and I’m getting married on New Years eve this year. My fiancé has not written his yet, he plans to do it the week before our wedding. I have changed my a little bit recently but it’s pretty much what I originally wrote. It’s very important to me that we write our own vows.

@stephko99:  Yes, we have written our own vows for our upcoming ceremony. 36 days whoohoo!!!

Fiance is writing his now, but, earlier this year I started a draft/slush file, copying different texts, thoughts, ideas, Fiance and I shared. Ive really tried to listen closely to his heart to determine what I should and can vow to him. “realistic and sustainable” were my goals.

Finally, about a month ago, I wrote and re-wrote them a million times over, using the traditional model of “to have and to hold, comfort and keep, sickness and health, richer or poorer” etc., as my springboard, just putting it into my own words. After doing so, I let a trusted and supportive friend proof read. Then, I timed myself reading them.

Fiance and I have decided to NOT share our vows with each other until the ceremony! And, I’ve printed a copy on pretty paper for him, rolled it into a scroll with a seal, and will give to him that night after the party ๐Ÿ™‚
