I took the road less travelled and have never regretted it. I never gave much thought when I was younger to where I would end up or had life plans other than what career I chose. Even that took me in a different direction to where I thought it would. I have seen a lot more of the world than I ever dreamed of and still plan to see much more. I have made some truly regrettable choices and also some pretty dam good ones.

But then again I have had a lot more loss in my life than I expected by my age. I also have had to face cancer twice. That has made me a stronger and I like to think, a kinder person as I appreciate life so much more and don’t let the small stuff get to me. What is the old saying? ” Man makes plans and God laughs at them.”

browneyedgirl24 :  Thank you! I’ve toyed with the idea and even submitted a new patient request form with a group of therapists but no one ever followed up. I’ve been pretty busy with work and life so I just kinda let it go. Most days I’m fine, but some days are harder and feel that I really need someone to talk to so I kick myself for not being established somewhere… I plan on asking the IVF center that we’re working with for leads on someone who’s familiar with the weight of infertility. I’m glad that therapy is helping you!

sassy411 :  You are so sweet! Thank you for the kind words and support. I do realize how we come off to others – we are genuinely in love with each other and it shows. My mom always jokes that we’re one of the few married couples she knows who actually like each other. I have been doing a better job of caring for me lately. And I just accepted a job offer that will take me out of a completely toxic environment and pays more, so I’m thrilled for that! Nervous for a big transition, but I imagine it will help my overall mental health, which is super important for when we do finally move forward with fertility treatment.

sharpshooter :  Well at 18 I was dating an older guy and wanted to be a “young mom” with kids in my early 20s. 4 years down the road in my early 20s I realized the older guy with multiple DUIs, no consistent employment, who didn’t pay his taxes and wanted to move to his mom’s (with me) was not the best choice. Thank god I didn’t have his children.

I’m in my late 20s now, married for almost 4 years to a wonderful man who is an amazing husband and father, and have a toddler and one on the way. Not what I planned exactly but I’m very thankful for that.

Not at all what I planned on. I thought I would have a much more high profile career, have an advanced degree and not get married until my late thirties, if ever. I wanted to live a life completely the opposite of the one I grew up with, which was one full of poverty and loss after loss.

I ended up getting married at 19 to my high school sweetheart and I’m still happily married at 25. We have a toddler and another baby on the way. We own a modest home in a quiet part of our city and I’m a social worker with a bachelors degree, in it for the emotional reward of helping people…certainly not the money. With the background I came from, I am proud to have even made it this far.

Mostly yes!

I always had a range of things I wanted in life so not specific things. For a job, I had 3 careers picked out and ended up in 2 of them (started with one and switched to another).

I thought I’d get married in my 30s or not married at all. Got married in my 30s.

Kids being 0 to 2. I have 1.

I always wanted to move far away from my parents. Check! Just didn’t think I’d end up in the city I did. Not my favorite city but the weather is good and the job is good/stable.
