(Closed) Did your parents hide that SO asked permission?

  • poll: Did your SO ask permission and did your parents hide it from you?

He asked and they told me before the proposal so I would stop worrying

    He didn't ask

He asked and they lied when I mentioned it before the proposal

He asked and it never came up before the proposal, so there was nothing to lie about!

He only asked my dad because he knew my mom couldn't keep it a secret.

I knew my fiance asked my dad and they weren’t very secretive about knowing what he was going to do either lol. Both my mom and my dad were suuuuper subtle and started asking me if I thought C was the one. LOL.

My fiance asked my parents for their blessing (NOT their permission) 3 days before he proposed to me. I didn’t suspect a thing, even though my mom was being really weird — she was avoiding talking to me, which I later found out was because she was so afraid she would let it slip!

Also, when he called my parents to ask them if he could go over to their house, they realized what was up … and they secretly set up a video camera and captured it on tape! I haven’t seen it yet, and they’ve sworn me to secrecy. My parents are so devious and sneaky!

He asked my dad, with hopes he wouldn’t tell my mom, because he knew she’d tell me. My dad did tell my mom, who told me 🙂 haha But I never told Fiance that I knew.

He asked my dad because he knew my mom couldn’t keep a secret, but he also knew my dad would tell my mom right away, so he only asked permission in the morning and then proposed that evening.

I never even had time to talk to my parents between when he asked my dad and when he proposed.

He asked my dad about a month before proposing. He didn’t ask my mom because she can’t hide things like that! Plus, he had to be sneaky and do it when we were on a trip home visiting my parents, so he had to sneak outside with my dad briefly so I didn’t notice.

    I had no idea!

Fi and I talked about it and become engaged without the ring. Just on principle I wouldn’t have felt right in him asking my parents.

He asked the night before he proposed, he couldn’t wait so he did it the next morning because he was so excited (: They didn’t have time to hide it haha.

He asked both my parents in March and he proposed in April. I noticed my dad was quieter when I brought up possible proposals (I was guessing it was over an upcoming vacation), but it didn’t really click that he knew something. He is TERRIBLE at keeping secrets, and I guess avoided talking to me on the phone. I still don’t know how he did it.

I can’t really vote either. He actually asked my dad when I was in the next room! We were getting ready to leave for my cousin’s wedding and he was talking to my dad in the kitchen and told him that he wanted to marry me. He finally did ask me about 2 months later, but we had talked about it for a long while plus we were together for over 7 years at that point so it wasn’t really a surprise that it happened.

My Fiance asked my dad for his blessing and my dad kept the secret…but my Fiance didn’t!! He told me later that day that he had called my dad!! Haha! Fiance is HORRIBLE at secrets and surprises! He gets too excited, it’s pretty cute actually!
