Our families have known eachother since we met – 8+ years ago. Our moms are friends and our brothers hang out almost weekly. We’re immigrants from the same place in a new country so that kind of bonds us well as families I guess. 🙂

My parents met both sets of DH’s parents (who both remarried) before we got engaged. But it wasn’t until our engagement party when the six of them hung out together. It was a pretty awesome sight to see.

Our families met pretty quickly after we started dating and get along really well! Our moms are actually BFFs now and go on lunch dates and talk on the phone! It’s pretty sweet, I couldnt imagine if there was tension between families. I feel super lucky!

We got engaged in November. For Christmas my family travels in a direction that takes us more or less past his (they live in a suburb of our city that we need to pass to leave). So on our way home from Christmas we did a planned dinner at his mom’s place to have the immediate families meet. Only people not there were my sister and Brother-In-Law who were with his family this year.

My parents first met my Mother-In-Law when they were all in town for our undergrad graduation, when we’d been together for a little more than 3,5 years (but several years before we got engaged). The next time they met was when my Mother-In-Law came to visit in September 2014 during our engagement, but before our wedding. My late Father-In-Law never met my parents, as he couldn’t travel to our uni graduation and then died about 18 months afterwards.
We live in the same city as my parents (in Finland), my Mother-In-Law lives in the same village where my husband grew up in the UK and we met at university in a different part of the UK.
ETA: Our siblings and their families didn’t meet until just before our wedding, though, mostly due to the distance aspect of things.
