Merinda1994:  My parents paid for the majority of our wedding. I have step siblings, both boys and girls, so my parents decided a long time ago to be fair that they would basically give us all the exact same amount for our weddings and we could spend it however we wanted…even if we didn’t spend it on the wedding at all. What ended up happening was that the boys pocketed a lot of that money since that tradition of the girl’s family paying still seems to be around somewhat, and the girls ended up spending every dime and then some on their weddings. My DH’s family definitely thought they wouldn’t need to chip in because they knew my parents had money and figured they were golden to get out of it. I thought that was kind of screwed up since they spent a ton of money on their daughter’s wedding. Still, I would never expect or feel I deserve that either side gives us money so we never brought it up. In the end, DH’s parents paid for the rehearsal dinner, my parents paid the majority, and we covered our jewelry, the vendor deposits, bridal party gifts, honeymoon and a few other misc items.

We are paying for the whole wedding ourselves. It never occured to us to ask our parents for help.

We paid for our wedding 100%

The one $$ gift was from my aunt who hosted our rehearsal dinner (we provided venue, rentals, and booze) and she paid for catering and decor and we <3<3<3 our RD!!!

My in-laws contributed 10k towards the wedding and paid for alcohol (wine, beer and liquor). My mom paid for my dress, our photographer and videographers, she pitched in towards catering and other miscellaneous stuff. my dad, who hadn’t been present in my life for a long time, surprised us and pitched in a small amount as well. Overall, we wouldn’t have had the beautiful wedding that we had without our amazing parents!

We are paying for the entire event. It’s a ton of money but in the end it has been less stressful because we get to make every decision ourself!

Fiance and I are both lucky to have relatively well-paying jobs, so we’re funding our frugal wedding ourselves. But his family has offered to host a rehearsal dinner for us, and my parents always offer to provide financial support, so there’s that.

Both sets of parents have contributed financially.

My parents helped out.  We didn’t ask, but they offered and gave us an amount to work with.  We covered the rest of the wedding.  It’s going to work out to about 50/50, not including the honeymoon which we are also paying for all on our own.

My mom and her husband are contributing. The offered and are paying for:

    • my dress
    • dj
    • alcohol (venue is BYOB)
    • ceremony
    • reception: includes tables, chairs, linens, catering (100% of first 100 guests, 50% for any additional guests)

Fiance’s parents will cover the rehearsal dinner. He also asked if they wanted to help with anything like the honeymoon or photography, etc. After some back and forth they have recently decided to give us an unspecified amount of money to use at our descretion.

He’s also expecting his grandmother to give us money, but I’m not ready to book anything I don’t think we can afford yet.

So basically everyone is contributing. We’re very lucky and grateful for it.

His mom is great and offered to pay for the photographer for us.  Other than that, we’re paying for the entire wedding ourself.  It’s actually costing me my entire year’s worth of salary and we’re having a fairly cheap wedding.  Makes me wonder why I’m even bothering.
