My fiance and I are getting married next spring, and we have a lot of our planning already out of the way. (Whoo hoo!) However, we recently started thinking it might be nice to extend the festivities once we become newlyweds by waiting to go on our honeymoon sometime in the fall. (We’re looking at the Oregon coast for that; we’ve both never been there before, and it looks beautiful!) In the meantime, we’d probably just go to Cape Cod for a long weekend/mini vacation right after we tie the knot. We live in CT so it’d be an easy drive and it’d still be a fun little getaway.
…Is anyone else planning on waiting to go on a honeymoon? Did anyone wait and regret not doing everything all at once? Did you wait and love it? Please share your thoughts!

We are. We want to spend our first married Christmas and NYE overseas, so we are combining it with our honeymoon. We just dont want to spend the money on two smaller vacations when we can just have an insane holiday honeymoon three months after our wedding.

This is not my exoerience, but it is my good friend’s: They got married last year but did not take a honeymoon right after. I think they stayed an exatr day or so in their hometown, but nothing fancy – she had to get back to school and he had to get back to work. They were planning on honeymooning in “a few months”.
But because they were married, they got a little lax with the BC after the wedding…and got preggos a month or so after getting married. They DID take a “mini-moon” shortly after learning they were pregnant, but she spent the whole time puking (morning sickness).
We left for our honeymoon 2 days after we got married, and I am so happy we did! After the stress leading up to the wedding, I needed the escape, and it was so nice basking in the “newness” of our marriage.
By The Way – we are planning on having an escape weekend once the weather turns (think long weekend in the mountains in teh fall with a hot tub), but I am very happy we went right away.

We waited. We’re still waiting. Financially a honeymoon just isn’t in the cards for us right now. However, marriage has definitely dealt us some stressful times and I think it will be nice for us to have a later honeymoon to look forward to, as opposed to getting all the good, fun stuff all at once.

We are too.
Because my parents insist on having another reception back home, we will already be taking at least 2 weeks off. We both have just started new jobs recently and won’t have enough leave saved up for a proper honeymoon on top of that. So, we are going to have a mini moon straight after, somewhere close.
We are planning to go on the proper honeymoon on our 1 yr anniversary. Gives us time to save up time and money!

We’re waiting until Thanksgiving. I’m a teacher and start work 2 days after the wedding (UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH), so we’ll go on my first break from school. I’m a little bummed about it — I was really hoping to have some time to relax and be happy about being married, but then I got this new job. I think that going on a mini-moon sounds like a perfect compromise!
(My other, off-topic concern is, should I break out the fancy new lingerie right away after the wedding, or should I “save” it for the honeymoon? Haha)

We’re waiting at least a year, truth is we have nothing planned, we want to make a trip someday in the future but we need the funds for it and right now the weddings taking almost everything.

We’re actually having our honeymoon instead of a wedding! Money is tight so we’re doing a courthouse ceremony all by ourselves and then taking a Honeymoon to a resort in Mexico. It was our priority.

We are waiting. At first I was bummed out we couldn’t go right away, but it’s been nice to have a fewmonths of looking forward to the honeymoon! Helps avoid the post wedding let down a bit. We are leaving a week from Sunday and cannot wait!

We’ve been married for over a year and a half and STILL haven’t gone on a honeymoon!

Man, I’m so sad to see so many people waiting to take a honeymoon! To me it sounds like the best part. My fiance and I are BIG on adventure and vacations, so we’re getting married in Maui, with mostly the beautiful scenery acting as wedding decor. We’ll spend a week there with our families and then afterwards we’re going on a honeymoon! My fiance gets to surprise me with the destination but I’m pretty sure he’s gonna pick Italy/Greece. Our actual wedding is not going to be much money at all (wedding on a cliff or beach, then “reception” on a cruise around the island). That’s all together like ~$2000-3000. But we’re gonna pay for some activities with our guests too. Can’t wait!!!

@the boss of you: That sounds like something my fiance and I would do too!!! It’s exciting, huh? Is your family mad that you’re not having a big shindig?

The plan right now is to go on a honeymoon in October. I get 2 days off work then and we’ll go for a long weekend. We just haven’t decided where.

No, they ain’t mad, bro 😉
Our family members would (largely) like to be with us, but can’t due to a variety of extenuating circumstances. That makes it easy!

We are waiting too. We’re getting married during a busy time of year for us… but we will probably take a little trip during the summer. We don’t really mind waiting 🙂
