I would say just watch your portion sizes, walk, and drink lots. (Of water that is) : ) Just by cutting your portions and watching the sugar you eat can help a lot. Do you exercise at all now?

@frumpykitty: Workout wise, find something that you love to do and can stick to every day.  It’s different for everyone – for me, being able to have a variety of things was important.  Between the gym (for a simple treadmill or elliptical workout) and at home activities (I used Wii Fit and EA sports active), I’ve been pretty successful.  In regards to diet, I try to stick to eating very little carbs after 5pm.  I’m still able to eat most of my favorite foods, but just don’t eat carbs late since my body has no time to digest them.  Oh, and lots of water.  Try not to drink sodas!
