This may be a really stupid question… but what is the difference between place cards and escort cards, and do I need both? I have to have assigned seating so the wait staff knows who chose what meal, but I’m not entirely sure how to go about it. Thanks in advance for any help!

I believe escort cards are the ones in the entrance of the room that show what table the guest is assigned to and place cards are the ones set on the table with the name in each person’s exact seat.

Hm… so does it get really cluttered with 8 escort cards AND place cards AND centerpiece things? Or is that normal and it looks nice still?

I’ve seen people post a chart/map on an easel, in lieu of escort cards, that directs guests to their table.
At our wedding, we assigned people to a table but allowed them to choose their own seat once they got there, so we made escort cards that said:
Please find a seat at
and then that became their place card when they sat down.

You can also use your escort cards to indicate meal choice by attaching a small sticker, stamping them or having a color difference.
