OEC cuts have chunky facets and throw big flashes of color, while Round Brilliant cuts have needly sparkles and throw tons of smaller rainbows and light. OEC is an antique cut and pretty similar to the ones used for diamonds, while the moissanite round brilliant cut was invented to maximize moissanite’s potential and hence doesn’t really look like an authentic diamond cut, if that sort of thing matters to you.

Search on youtube and you can find a ton of videos.

The OEC has larger facets (fewer facets too) so its chunkier and has larger flashes of light. RB’s are more glittery, if that makes sense.

I think that the OECs are much prettier…but that’s just my opinion. Check out jcent and katnewby’s rings.

@Someday_Mrs_Maguire:  i think either would look good on the setting you chose. I think OEC would give a more antique look especially with the pave band.

@Someday_Mrs_Maguire:  I think OEC will suit the yellower moissanite color, so if you get unenhanced, a more vintage look with the OEC is just gorgeous! i say go for it!

I posted both of these on another thread, but it gives you a nice perspective on the difference in light behavior.  I usually explain it as round brilliant has a more glittery sparkle, while OEC’s have larger, more rainbowy flashes.  Personally, I prefer the look of the OEC, but it will show more body color, so it’s really a matter of taste.

@Someday_Mrs_Maguire:  How funny that you posted this– I made a post just like this yesterday! i guess it got buried. I’ll find the link and come back and post it here, because a few people posted pictures of their OECs and one person had pictures comparing both.

I’ll be watching to see what replies you get, too! I’m still curious since there weren’t that many replies to the post I did.

@Someday_Mrs_Maguire:  Sounds like you want pretty much the same thing as me- I love the warmth of the unenhanced moissanites. I love the chunky, rainbow-y look of the OECs but I really like the sparkle and uniqueness of the variation of brilliant cut made for moissanites, too!

Here’s the link to my thread about this– some good pictures. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/comparison-brilliant-cut-vs-old-european-cut-moissanite-pics-please#axzz2LTUb8BcM

@Someday_Mrs_Maguire:  I think that for what you are describing, unenhanced OEC in 7.5mm would be perfect.
