    They're all very similar

I agree with everyone who says that you shouldn’t pay attention to the brands, they are all overpriced but offer very similar (high) workmanship. I do know that if you’re looking at platinum, both Tiffany and Cartier use the alloy 950 platinum with ruthenium, which is the the most scratch resistant of the platinum alloys (most stores use iridium, since it’s the easiest to work with but the easiest to scratch). Ruthenium is the hardest to work with so many jewelers don’t like to work with it. Not all platinum is the same, so the extra cost compared with other stores’ platinum isn’t -all- for nothing.

If I really had to choose, I’d pick Cartier, but only because I’ve had amazing service at their boutique, compared with the snob-ish vibe I’ve had at Tiffany.

I would suggest you go and look at all the rings they have to offer and decide from there.

@KC-2722:  Clearly you don’t like Tiffanys. They don’t work with just silver, but if you like silver, its definitely the way to go. I have pieces from all of these companies and I prefer Tiffany.

@ForeverAndEverAfter:  no I really don’t.. I know for their higher end goods they use platinum and gold, but they just have so much cheap silver jewlery. Don’t get me wrong, I do have some Tiffany pieces that I love, I just think the quality of Cartier and Bvlgari to be superior.

    I ditto that.

The craftsmanship of the setting is truly excellent.  It is true that you can get a replica or copy of the Tiffany setting and it looks great.  However it is not the exact same, especially due to copyright infringements, if it were.

It is not just the look of the setting that makes it so alluring but the fact that the whole engagement ring is a Tiffany and the entire luxury, class, romance, history, and timeless quality of Tiffany is being carried with the authentic product.

A great example of this is buying an authentic Louis Vuitton bag or wallet, versus buying a replica or fake LV bag which looks almost identical.  I purchased the Damier Ebene Trevi PM bag for my Girlfriend last year and I got it for her not just because of the quality but also the timelessness, class, luxury and history behind the product.

@RayKay:  totally agree! it bugs me to think half of the price I paid for the ring is going to the advertisement.lol
