A friend of mine named her little girl Kinsley. I think it’s adorable! & it’s so different. I also like McKinley for a girl, but it isnt our top choice.

@stargal34: Caoilainn (pronounced Kaylen)

I hate names like that. That are impossible to spell or to pronounce based on the spelling. It’s torture to a poor kid to give them that sort of name. I love unique names, but being to “creative” that you create a life-long pain in the neck for your child is no gift.

@BabyPebbles – my sister is a Juliette! πŸ™‚  I’d love to name a girl Julianne (nickname Annie) one day in her honor!

@kala_way: That’s a gaelic spelling, not an inventive spelling.  Though I agree, when names are changed simply to be ‘creative’ it causes lots of problems!  I have a cousin named Ryin.  My aunt wanted to name him Ryan, but thought it was too common so just changed the spelling.  People never get it right!

wow… from a teacher perspective, this is funny. I’ve seen so many names go from “wow, that’s cute and has potential!” to complete disaster b/c the parent thought it would be cute to either NOT use vowels (Brtny) or use 8 million letters (Britttaneieieie) (those were just some random examples, but hopefully you know what I mean).

Also, some names have a higher potential for producing a mental image of a stipper (think: Memory, Lyric, Stormy, Misty, Candy, etc)

We’re kind of limited. My Fiance really loves the name Dawn, but his last name is Key. Yeah… Dawn Key. Not gonna fly.

Personally, I’m leaning toward Savannah. Fiance surprised me one Christmas with a trip there after I’d finished reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and it was such a romantic trip. It really validated that we were both serious about our relationship and we knew that this was something special.

I do have a friend named Rothlauren. We call her Ro for short. I think it’s an old Irish/Catholic possibly Gaelic name?

@Brianalaura: yea, I figured, but if you don’t live in an area where that’s understood and common it’s just an affectation, imo

@bunnyfoofoo: Dawn Key, lol, aww   So many amazing options for that last name! Joe, Hawk, Mick, Lane, Lock. No but seriously, that’s a pretty last name that could go great with a lot of names, probably a multi-syllable one though.

@littlemissmango: I ‘out-beered’ my now hubby on our first date too.  So funny!

I can’t really add to the name game much.  I’ve jsut always said that when we have a baby, we are going to pick a name that didn’t appear on the top 100 in recent years (think like 5-10 years) unless it was a family name that we were stuck on.

So far our name choices are no where close to top 100.
