I think its a sweet idea; my sister did this back in 2005 (I haven’t even seen Sex & the City yet), I’ll try post a pic.

I had a brief thought to do the same, but am leaning more towards same colour dresses but different styles. I think one colour probably sets the theme more… unless multicolours are your theme. Or different shades of colours also looks good.

We’re doing two different colors, four different styles (four BMs) but all in the same fabric and all the same length. I think as long as there’s something that unifies them, they’ll look great – think of advertisements in which everything’s coordinated but not identical. That was my inspiration, at least.  I also think that when everything is a solid color, it doesn’t look busy… it just looks pretty! But that’s JMO.

MissLaura, those dresses look great!

I say go for it!!

Matchy bridesmaids looks very "dance recital".

I’m sure they will appreciate this. Yay!!

I was in a wedding a couple of years ago where we all wore different colors and different styles. I was a little nervous about how it would look, but it turned out great! The colors were kind of sunset-y: orange, pink, red, burgundy. Everyone picked colors and styles that worked best for them.

The dresses were from Aria (http://www.ariadress.com/). The website has a ton of pictures including some examples of multi-colored bridesmaid dresses. Hope that helps!

I think it depends on how many bridesmaids you have. If it’s more than 3 or so, I think it will look a little carnival like. With 4 or more, I would do same dress in different colors or different dresses in one color. With three or less I think it would look great. I would try to keep them in the same silhouette though. All long dresses, all cocktail length, etc. I think it would give it a more uniform look that way, but still unique. I loved the look of SATC, but since you never saw them all standing next to each other I always wondered how it would look in real life, but I really liked the picture MissLaura posted.

I’m doing the different coloured bridesmaid thing and I’m having 4! They’re all having different colours (Pale Lemon, Lilac, Peachy/Coral/Apricotish and Pistachio Green) and they’re all choosing their own style of dress. The only specifications I’ve given them is that I’d like them to get a dress in chiffon and length (ie. No visible undies or too much leg!). Apart from that I’ve told them to go with something cocktaily so they can wear it again, like to the races or something! I’m really looking forward to it and i didn’t really see it as choosing a colour scheme, rather I saw it as choosing NOT to have a colour scheme! I think that once you choose one colour for your bridesmaids you feel like EVERYTHING then has to be either white, black or that colour and I didn’t want to be restricted!!!! I think it’ll look great and i’m really pleased that my girls have so much choice in what they’re wearing!

@Miss Sparklespaniel: Hiya, not sure if you still read/post here but I am doing something very similar for bridesmaid dresses. We may have as many as six…leaning toward a soft peach, dusty rose, periwinkley blue, soft buttery yellow, orchid-lavender color and maybe a vanilla/neutral too. Do you have pics you can share? I am obsessing over colors now!

Thanks!!

Steph

My sister had a large bridal party and what she did was have her bridesmaids all wear black dresses with hot pink sashes and then she had me and my other sister (we were co-maids of honor), where a pink color that was the exact same as the sash and it all blended in really nice.

I am also having a large bridal party 12!  I have many sisters and I’m at 6 before I even added my friends.  I think I am going have a darker color for the majority of them and then have a lighter tone for my co-matrons of honor – or even a completely different color but that blends well.

I have a large bridal party 7 girls and 1 brides-man.  The girls are wearing the same style dress but in different shades of pastels ( yellow, pink, grey, lavender).  I think they look great together.

Lucy:  I am thinking the same thing each girl in a different color that is on the right. And letting them chose their own dress, but it is making me nervous!
