I am getting married in a tropical garden overlooking the ocean in an area that has patchy grass. 🙁 I’ve been struggling with what to do with an aisle runner because I worry that the normal type of white aisle runner will be blown around by the wind (very breezy at our site because of the ocean) and worry that using stakes to hold it down may tear the runner causing it to split even more when people walk on it.
So, I’m thinking about using straw beach mats instead (note: our wedding is very casual and laid back – key west style). I know they will be sturdy in the breeze, and they’re wider (3′) than a standard aisle runner, which I really like. They’re about 6′ long, so I’ll have to get several and secure them together on the underside (nobody would see that) and probably have to stake them as well to make sure they stay in place as people walk, but at least they won’t tear if staked.
The issue is still that no matter what runner I use, it will still bunch a little when someone steps on it. It’s being laid on grass (very short grass, but still). The entire reason I am even bothering with an aisle runner is because there is an area right when I walk in that is practically dirt – it’s a worn path from people walking through the garden. I didn’t want to drag my dress through it and make it dirty.
Just wondering if this beach mat idea will fail miserably… or if any bees have other suggestions for what I could do. I’m out of ideas… and really didn’t want to drag my dress through dirt before pictures are even taken!
Here is what I am talking about:
