Could you find a Unitarian church? The ministers there would be very willing to customize a wedding ceremony so your parents get the religious aspect and you and your Fiance have the non religious ceremony you want.

I think it depends on what is most important to you and your fiance.  If you are content with eloping and having a small number of people there with you, then go for it! But if you had your heart set on a bigger wedding (anything other than eloping) then you might want to consider your mother’s offer.  Is it a problem for you and your fiance to get married in a church?  Would you feel uncomfortable? I would be wary of any offers for help that are conditional…if it is conditional to begin with, it will probably only get worse.

I don’t think that request would fly in a Christian church.  Most churches make you go through some sort of pre-marital counseling, in which you agree to be married before God and in His presence.  The main point of getting married in a Christian church is to make your vows before God, etc.  I’m not being preachy, just going off of what I have experienced so far-you get the point, I’m sure.  I know in my church they make a big deal about checking to see WHY you want to be married in the church rather than outdoors, or in a non-religious ceremony.  That might be a tough one to maneuver for you guys.
