Whomever is paying for the wedding gets the final say.  If she’s paying then you’re going to get stuck dealing with her holding the purse strings until you give her what she wants.  If you’re paying then you tell her what you’re plans are and stick to your February date (also you get final say in the guest list if you’re paying.)  Make sure that your Fiance gets in line and supports you on this.  If he can’t support you in standing up to his mom now, how is going to stand up to her later after you’re married?

So your Mother-In-Law is saying she’ll pay for you guys to have a nicer wedding if you wait until May?

How sure are you that she’ll actually come up with the funds?

A good way to limit the amount of guests would be to have it on a Thursday, like you’ve said you wanted. A lot of people won’t be able to make it, and your wedding will be paid for.

That being said, if you just want a simple ceremony, just elope with close family and friends when you both want to.

I was in your situation. I just wanted a small, simple wedding with a guest list of 50 or less. My dad offer to pay for the entire wedding but wanted to invite the entire family, plus his friends. It started getting too overwhelming for us. My Fiance just has  less than 10 people on his side andstill didn’t care to invite them. My side, over 100. It started becoming the opposite if what we wanted. So now, I cancelled our wedding and we are eloping, just the two of us. 🙂 We are so much happier and stress free!

We get married on our own terms. When we want, where we want and how we want! :))

@soontobeasheldon13:  Seven months is plenty of time to plan a wedding.  I easily planned my first wedding in that time frame; we decided to get married in March and started planning in August.
