I also second having something a bit more substantial if you’re serving drinks though! A small cheese platter with lots of bread/crackers is easy to do on the cheap, and fills the tummy nicely when you’re boozing!

There was actually an interesting thread like this yesterday in which people basically said it’s acceptable if it’s in the mid-afternoon not at a meal time and if guests are made absolutely aware of the situation.

Personally, I think 7 pm is dinner time. I agree with PPs that 2 or 3 pm would be more appropriate.

Just a suggestion: Why not cut the alcohol and serve dinner? I would rather have food than alcohol, personally.
