Depends on the formality of your occasion. If it’s formal, separate card. If it’s not, do whatever you want. I printed map map as an insert (separate card) only because our invite is kinda big and the insert is a smaller piece of cardstock that’s more portable (easily put away in pants pocket, wallet, or purses.)

In our formal invites i included a separate map insert with a note also to check our website for more detailed instructions.  Then when I printed the rehearsal dinner invites I printed directions directly on the back of that one. I think it’s really your preference on this one.

i think for formal situations, it’s typically done on a separate piece of paper. we did our rsvp information, dress code and directions on a separate insert if that’s helpful

I agree it depends on formality. But I wouldn’t call it “tacky” is either case. If pritning on the back saves one little tree, then good for you. Anyone who asks just let them know you are doing your part to have a low impact wedding.
