I am not including the map or directions in the invite.  I am putting them in the OTT bags.  I have never rememebered to bring the directions with me and I think most don’t.

I think doing the two hotels on the map would be helpful for your guests. Could you do little blow ups coming out of them and write the directions underneath? I did some for our rehearsal dinner:

@lefeymw: Really? I always have mine! LOL! I keep the whole invite together and bring it with me on the day, especially if it’s Out of Town. We’re also notorious for being late to weddings because we think it’s an hour later than it actually is, so I have to keep the invites close at hand to double check times, etc. That’s a habit we need to break…

Bakerella, I love your map! It’s so stylish!

Having said that, OP, I’m skipping them because they’re a big brouhaha to do for me in letterpress and it would be yet another piece of paper. I think that it’s a really nice courtesy to include, but it’s not a crime to omit. I think you’re fine with directions. People these days know how to mapquest if they need the visual reference.

@JennyW1: Thanks! That was for our rehearsal invite, it was much more fun and eclectic. Our wedding map was this:

Actually, funny, now that I look at it, I didn’t include the hotel info at all. BUT our hotel arrangements got a bit messed up and the whole hotel was booked for another event 5 months before our wedding, so it’s not like any of our guests could have gotten a room even if they wanted to! So hey, skip the hotel! LOL!

I went back and forth on this, but I think I’ve decided to just do maps in the Out of Town bags.  That way I don’t waste paper sending maps to those local guests who don’t need them, and I don’t have to stress so much about the maps looking nice.

I’m still hoping to provide transportation to the guests (but we’ll have to see how the budget shakes out), and so if that happens we won’t do maps at all.

@Nola: If they’re older too they may not have GPS or think about Mapquesting it before they leave. My parents go old school with road maps 😉 If your maps to the venue are only available at the hotel, they’ll still need a map to get to the area/hotel in the first place. I would go with the map with the blow ups to cover your bases for the older or non-technologically inclined folks.
