I paid for all (3) of bridesmaid dresses and shoes. The bridesmaids said they would pay for hair and make-up. I asked them what would their budget be for hair and make-up so I can look for someone to do our hair and make-up. Now they’re saying they want to do their OWN hair and make-up. I’m just very frustrated now and upset. Any thoughts on this situation?

@shoppingshortie: Don’t worry about it. I’m sure what they do themselves will be fine. 🙂

It kinda sucks taht they went back on their agreement. I would tell them they need to get their hair done, but makeup is optional.

If your wedding is 18 months from now (based on the May 2014 date??) I wouldn’t worry about it at the moment. You’ve got oodles of time between then and now, and maybe they’ll change their minds. If they don’t, it’ll only make you look even more beautiful on your day!

Are they good at hair and make up?

I think the OP’s point is that she paid for their dresses and shoes and they were going to pay for their hair and makeup and now they’re not going to pay after they agreed on the deal.
I would ask them for their hair to be done, they can do their own makeup as long as they don’t look like clowns…

@happyface: Yes, definitely. It just might not be worth the fight if they are insisting and capable.

Thanks ladies! I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t going crazy. I made sure the bridesmaids had a lot of time to save since I told them in advance and since we needed the time to save for our wedding (we’re not getting help from our parents).
I know how costly it is being a bridesmaids. I might just pay for their hair and make-up and not get them a bridesmaid gift. Does that sound more reasonable or I’m just being a push-over?

I’d meet them halfway – ask for them to pay for the hair to be done, but let them do their own makeup if they are capable.
