So I don’t know if I’m a super snobby foodie or what, but I was really disappointed with the food tasting we just had tonight! The food was totally hyped up by everyone who knows about the venue – vendors, coordinators, etc., so I was expecting something amazing. The appetizers are usually my favorite part of a meal, but these were nothing special at all. The crab appetizers were both fake crab! SO disappointing especially because I love crab cakes! We get to pick 6 out of the 12 but I think it’ll be hard to do. The sides were mostly meh – nothing memorable. There was only one good entree and the rest were dry and not that flavorful. Am I just being totally unreasonable?? I feel bad that I’ll have to pick things I’m not crazy about to feed my guests. Has anyone else been through this also? Feeling down :/

I am a total foodie and I am so picky about food. I haven’t done a tasting because in my case it would be impossible. But fake crab meat? ugh. And dry entrees are gross. I understand your concern, most people remember food from weddings. Can you tell them that you weren’t impressed? *hug* sorry I can’t be more of help.

If you were at all not impressed by the tasting, that is reflective of what the actual food will be like. Demand another tasting or go elsewhere. Food is important because people will remember if it’s good or bad, and if you are paying that much for it, it better be damn good. That said, a tasting should be done before you book them and most caterers have no issues with this at all. If they do, run elsewhere. If you book them first blindly and then do a tasting, and it ends up turning out badly, you unfortunately are stuck unless you have no issue with the repercussions of a broken contract and going elsewhere instead, and the tasting does reflect what the actual food will be like and there isn’t much you can do at that point.

Tell your vendor your concerns and ask for another tasting. A reputable vendor values his or her reputation and your satisfaction. Look elsewhere if they are not willing to accomodate your desire for food that tastes good!

Can you go with a different caterer? You still have a little time to find a different one that you like better.

Well we can’t really go elsewhere because we already booked everything and put down deposits. They just have that one caterer they use. I’m okay with having the one entree that was good, but I feel like guests would want an alternate to beef. We’re supposed to setup another meeting with the venue to talk about the food, so maybe I’ll let her know we weren’t happy about it.
@sceeder: Thanks for the hug. *hug* 🙂

Can you get a second tasting? Maybe communicate what tasty food is to you and pinpoint what was wrong with it. Was it not fresh/ not good ingredients (achem fake crab), not seasoned well, not originial enough etc. Then they have an idea how to fix it.
