- Wedding: September 2012
I am so discouraged, upset, and frustrated.
My fiancé is an active duty military man and I am planning the wedding basically by myself while I am still in our home town and he is at his duty station. He also just received a letter he was on the deployment list and may be deployed to Afghanistan.
Along with the stress of being a part, and his possibly deployment his family and mine are not excited about the wedding. They are happy we are together and engaged but planning the wedding (and talking over ideas) we are being told over and over- “just go to the court house!” and “Just have a honeymoon no wedding or reception” or “go to the fire hall for the reception”. Everyone is down playing one of my most dreamed of day.
My fiancée and I have already discussed we are paying for the wedding because it is our marriage no one else’s. Although, I am very upset with the comments!! Maybe I’m being stuck up?? But my plan is to get married in a beautiful church in our town (where my brother and his wife was married) and then have the reception outside at a family friend’s large property. Our wedding is about 15 months away so I have time and the reason we are getting married later is I will graduate with my bachelor’s degree in summer 2012. But from the moment I said “YES!” I have been bullied with discouraging comments and it seems as If no one is excited or happy about our plans. Please help. how should the situation be handled!?
