I’m a major WDW nerd and have been 15+ times. DH and I LOVE Disney.
That said…(and I hate to be a negative nelly about it) but we honestly would never have done a Disney Honeymoon ever. It’s not about the price, it’s about the lack of relaxation and romance.
Disney is super fun, but if it’s either of your first time, you’re going to feel overwhelmed. Your feet hurt every night, you’re often too tired to do the things you would normally do on a vacation (much less a Honeymoon ) and it’s just kind of a (super magical) rat race.
If you do end up going, I can’t recommend staying on Disney property enough. If you have to do an All Star, you’ll be in a room with 2 full sized beds. When we do that, DH and I sleep in separate beds. If you can go one step up to moderate, you have your choice of Kind of 2 queens. Staying on Disney property has sooo many perks: free transportation everywhere (to/fom airport, to all disney reorts, parks and DTD), early entry/late nights at the parks, and just overall theming and special touches that only Disney can do.
Honestly, like I mentioned in the OP, Fiance is really not a sit and relax type of guy. Even getting him to watch an entire sixty minute episode of a television show is a struggle, so the thought of him being stuck on a beach somewhere with nothing to do kind of stressed me out. Luckily, because we live in FL, we plan on stopping over at a hotel right on St. Pete Beach for two nights before returning home. That way we get all of the fun and excitement from Disney, but still get to unwind on a beach before returning to our normal lives.
I’ll second Mrs.Sawyertobe’s suggestion for Port Orleans French Quarter! We just stayed there this spring and it was great!
POFQ is smaller than POR – making it much easier to go to and from the bus stop or to get to the pool/lobby/laundry. It felt quieter and less busy. And it’s the first bus stop for Port Orleans, so it’s always easy to get a seat!
It’s a really quick walk along the river to get to POR, if you want to go to the restaurant or shops and they offer rides over to POR as well.
When we went, we used the Stay, Play, Dine deal and I think the dining plan worked out to be cheaper if we planned to spend more then $30/day on food. It’s A LOT of food (and they really push you to get the dessert and drink!) but I enjoyed trying out a new sit-down restaurant every day and not worrying about the prices of the dishes.
Where all did you eat? Our “special” dinner is Claifornia Grill during the fireworks. We are also doing San Angel Inn, Chefs de France, Coral Reef, and Via Napoli (which gets great reviews). I thought about the German place, but we live near Cincinnati, which has a huge German population and eat at the German restaurant there pretty often. Le Cellier gets slightly better reviews than Chefs, but it costs 2 credits. My travel agent said Chefs and Via Napoli are both great and San Angel Inn is really romantic. We deicded to mostly eat at EPCOT….
We ate at these restaurants:

I’ve been to San Angel Inn on a past trip and it is really romantic! It looks like a market place at night inside the Mexico pavilion. I hope you enjoy your trip!
One of the bloggers, Mrs. Jackrabbit, went to Disneyworld for her honeymoon and her posts were really insightful and fascinating to read! Thought they might be helpful for you!
We honeymooned in Disney, and it couldn’t have been a better honeymoon! We went straight to a gift shop and got the bride and groom “ears”. I think we got congratulated about a million times. 🙂
I would reccomend a disney honeymoon to everyone. We’d had a very hard year (3 deaths in my family, problems with my mom..) and it was a perfect escape from reality that was just sooo much fun!

UPDATE: After mulling it over for a while, Fiance and I finally pulled the trigger and booked our Disney Honeymoon! We are both very excited about it and plan on taking an additional three days after our week at Disney to relax on the beach before heading back to reality! Honestly, I couldn’t be more pleased 😀
