It was intentional. Even if he was going to surprise a lover, he would (a) wait for a knock on his door and (b) open the door and stand just inside the room NOT out in the hallway.

I think alerting the front desk was the right call. Whether or not he intentionally exposed himself to you, unless there’s a fire or a serial killer in the room with you, there is no reason to enter a hotel hallway completely naked.

I am with the others, I think it was on purpose. Hotel hallways are usually very quiet but maybe he had the door open enough to hear someone coming, and jumped out naked. We all know there are people like that, exhibitionists.

You were right to alert the hotel. In case he did it to someone else, who didn’t take it as down to earth as you did. You are corroboration.

He totally did it on purpose. You were right to call the front desk in case it happens to someone else, but I’d bet you a steak dinner they never called the guy.

I don’t think the front desk is actually going to address the situation, and they will likely assume it is an accident – but I think it’s always a good idea to report weird behaviors just in case someone else experiences the same thing from him.  Establishes a record in case there is a pattern.  If someone reports that more than once, they will be able to document his behavior.

As far as intentional flashing vs. “I walk around naked,” I’ve seen a lot of strange things at hotels. I’ve seen two nakeds opening their doors, both were men in their 50s+ and one was getting his morning newspaper. The other was a creeper who harassed the housekeeping staff.

There also was a couple who used to go around to all the different hotels in the area and order room service and tell the RS delivery person to just come in, and would intentionally be in mid-sex acts.  Another couple who were caught having sex in the club lounge, which led to installed security cameras and a change in hotel policy. They left the girl’s panties as a souvenir for the housekeeping staff (who did not appreciate it.)  Another professional who used to aggressively hit on guest service women from the front desk and restaurant and invite them to his room, who we looked up online and saw that he had multiple sexual harassment cases pending against him within his own company.

I have so many stories.

It’s intentional and happens all the time, my hotel desk friend tells me stories you would’t believe.

(Once she got a call in the middle of the night from her panicked staff because there was a naked man running around and they couldn’t catch him, police was on the way… hahaaaa… )

tiffanybruiser :  it was most likely intentional but one of the doctors I work with did this by accident once.

He was drunk, passed out and fell asleep. Woke up to go to the toilet and in his drunken state and opened the wrong door thinking it was the bathroom.  He ended up flashing some dudes walking past his room. He was really embarrassed at the time but laughs about it now years later!

So it could have been a genuine accident… 😂

I used to work at a hotel, I’ve seen some weird shit and some seriously sad shit so this surprises me none. I probably would have shrugged and continued on cause I’m pretty desensitized.  Never got a naked guy though!

We used to have this older couple who travelled with a child sized Curious George who they referred to as their child. They would dress him up in children’s clothing and make me talk to him as if he was a real child. Weird at the time but makes me sad to think about now. Her husband was a truck driver and they would stay frequently when he went through town on a run.

Probably intentional. You did the right thing by calling the front desk.

Probably intentional, I had something like this happen when I was like 22. My girlfriends and I were traveling overseas and staying in a pretty sketchy hotel/motel and we came back late at night and when we were walking to our room this man appeared in the hallway completely naked and started speaking to us, no idea what he was saying as we didn’t speak the same language. It was super creepy but also not shocking, people do weird shit and there’s a lot of creeps out there. We didn’t bother saying anything to the front desk, this place was sketchy and they probably wouldn’t have done anything.

He didn’t suddenly forget he was in a public hotel.  You did the right thing by reporting it.

Judging by your update, your gut feeling was right and this was probably intentional. I hope you’re not staying on the same floor with this guy for much longer.

Although… I do know someone who did this with no creepy intentions. Just raced out onto a hotel balcony butt naked to get some fresh air, because he was sure there’s no one around (corner room, slow season, very few people at the hotel). This is someone who’s normally very serious, but I guess he got way over-excited about being on vacation!
