I’m in Canada so it may be different if you are elsewhere, but when I seperated from my first husband I called vital statistics and they told me that a married name is just assumed and I was able to change everything back just useing my birth certificate, long before the divorce was done. If it’s the same where you are you should just be able to go into the dmv and get a new license or I’d with your maiden name to replace what you have now.

teacherbee_111 :  youll need your marriage certificate to change your various pieces of Id to your new married name. So if your old pieces of ID have your old married name, it’s better that it shows that name. Otherwise you’ll also need to prove your maiden name using your divorce certificate. So while it may not be romantic to have your old married name on your marriage certificate, in your case it’s much more practical. But realky, the only time you’ll actually look at this piece of paper is to change your id, so it really shouldn’t matter.

chocochai :  if it is as simple where she is as it was where I am she could have her name back to her maiden name on all her ID before her wedding. I literally changed my name on everything in a day, I did my ID first and once that was done the rest was just phone calls or drop in to things like the bank and such. Then she could have her maiden name in her new wedding certificate.

We had an official state license and a pretty certificate from our officiant.  If you have an informal certificate from the officiant you could put your maiden name on that for framing.
