I wanted a tiger and dog wedding cake topper because that’s our chinese zodiac signs. I came across this shop in my search http://www.etsy.com/shop/kikuike?section_id=5622606. Super cute!! but I couldn’t bring myself to spend that amount of money for the toppers.
Then I thought… why couldn’t I make it myself? Did a google search and skim a few youtube tutorials on it, decided I could try it.
Went to AC Moore to buy polymer clay. I can’t remember the exact price but it was ~$2 per block and ~$5-6 for the combo pack. Plus weekly coupons!
SO refused to have any part in making it due to his lack of crafting skills. I managed to whip out the tiger in under 45 minutes. SO was surprised about how fast I made it. Ears looked more cat-like but I didn’t change it because I ran out of the orange clay.
Then onward to the dog. This was faster since I got the hang of it.
I couldn’t decide on the stand and decorative parts (plus I got lazy) so it was kind of a mess of random flowers. Flowers were fun and super easy to make though. I had originally wanted a tree decorated with flowers.
Finished product on wedding day! It ended up being more of a cake sider due to miscommunication issues with the cake (I don’t think the bake shop was ever informed of it…)
The emcee kept calling it Garfield and Snoopy . Maybe I should’ve changed the ears. Darling Husband was proud of the work I did regardless. I was pleased with the way it turned out too.
