I’m 44 too! water, water, water…exercise, lots of protein and fruits and veggies makes my skin look best.

Slather on the sunblock.  Also lots of moisturizers. I think you are doing just fine!  Regular mani/pedis help too.

believe me, I see my age…I just choose to look at it like lessons learned! Here is a pic with my BFF since we were 15, she will be 44 in November, she was also worried about crows feet etc.  Did you choose your gown yet?

Oh! pro airbrushed makeup is 100% worth every penny!

@Gwen827:  your dress is BEAUTIFUL! I wanted something with straps but couldn’t find anything suitable, I am very busty and wasn’t thrilled with having to wear strapless.  I love yours!

My BFF lives far from me too, she came 1200 miles to attend.

The airbrush makeup, I don’t know if you have a lot of makeup artists by you but here we have many.  They have a little machine (like painting with airbrush) that they put a tiny drop of makeup in and it mixes with air and actually sprays a fine mist of air/makeup onto your face, it makes it flawless and it’s very light. I don’t like foundation because I feel it makes wrinkles and lines and crows feet really apparent and ages me, so I rarely wear it but the airbrush makeup is so fine that you don’t feel like you are wearing anything at all and it stays all day.

Here is a good link to give you an idea:

Hi Gwen! I’m new here but in the same boat as you. Here a few things I’ve found, that must be working…or so I’m told by friends and family! Im a self disclosed lifelong Cosmo girl and Drugstore Beauty hobbiest πŸ™‚

First off, you’re right on with HYDRATION. Even if you’re drinking a lot of water, try adding good fats to your diet; lots of olive and flax oils, and try eatina fresh avocado daily. Ive also been seeing a naturopathic practitioner, and 3 mos into adding fats to my diet I’ve actually LOST weight, and noticed a HUGE improvement in my head to toe skin tone and elasticity!!!

A bright smile πŸ™‚ is your BEST makeup! Add some plain baking soda to your daily toothpaste and brush well. I mix the soda powder with Sensadyne and my teeth have whitened several shades. Careful not to over use or it eats your enamel away.

St. Ives Invigorating apricot scrub, from head to toe is a great skin buffer and the scrub is based in a fairly emoillant cream. Rinse, immediately slather on either olive oil or Johnson’s baby oil gel to damp skin. Use the scrub on your hands and feet with not much water, rinse, and apply a slathering of Bag Balm! Your hands and feet will lose 20 years overnight!!!!

Finally, Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum is a godsend for frizzed out older hair or damaged hair. Apply to ends and comb thru, blow dry with a wide barrel round brush and finish with a wide barreled round, or flat iron. I guarantee you’ll be amazed with the results.

For my own wedding day routine, I plan on a vigorous exfoliation in the morning followed by heavy duty moisture to sink in all day. Olive oil is my secret weapon…the salad smell really does disappear quickly, its Hypoallergenic, and layering on scented lotions and perfumes afterwards really works! For makeup I normally use Bare Minerals loose powders, and for a completely matte finish, I will add some cornstarch to my Mineral Veil finishing powder!

Congratulations and best of beauty luck!!! πŸ™‚

OMG I almost forgot my two favorite tricks of all time!!! Visine applied with a q tip to blemishes and or reddened capillaries on cheeks and nose area really works! So does a yellow based concealer. Also, Preparation H cooling gel…yes, hemmorhoids gel! Around puffy eyes really works well too, with a cool wet compress forfew few minutes will really tighten up the eye area!

Here is my DIY beauty.

Fall Wedding

It is easy and simple. I did a lot of hydration, clean eating. very little alcohol a week before the wedding. I did exfloiation and a hydration mask the day before and the day of the wedding.

@Gwen827:  I’m not an older bride, but my hair used to be suuuper thick and fluffy and unmanageable, and i found that getting it thinned out made a HUGE difference. i still have more volume than the average person, but my hair has gotten way healthier/silkier. after every thinning, it feels lighter and more manageable, and if i go too long in between, it starts to get coarser-feeling and less manageable. be careful they don’t overthin though, or thin you out weird. it grows back, but for your first time, i’d ask them to just thin you out a bit and see how you like it, and then gradually get thinned out more until you’re happy with it.

i would also recommend a deep-condition. it makes an insta-difference in making your hair silkier, and while it doesn’t last as long as a keratin treatment, it’s also way cheaper. there’s some drug store deep conditioners that are supposed to be good (i had one, but it was discontinued), although i lovee salon ones.

Water and regular exercise really do the most for my skin–also a light non-comeogenic moisturizer with sunblock.

I don’t know what I will do about makeup–I normally just wear foundation day-to-day as I have  really dark eyebrows and lashes.  Whenever I think about more for the wedding, I think of the scene in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” where they’re in the limo and John Corbitt is asking her to take it all off.  I know I’ll have to experiment and practice a bit, since even a reasonable change will leave me feeling not myself, especially with eye makeup. Last time I did a makeover I felt like a vamp.
