Wanted to share my DIY caketopper and couldn’t wait for the wedding. The man and I are both writers and I wanted something that was more than just two people vaguely resembling us. I was super-excited with the final product, especially that I found a “masculine” and a “feminine” pen. (:

This is so unique and clever – not to mention personal. I love it! Great job 🙂

I really like this! I love the difference in the pens too! Any meaning behind the dictionary page you chose?

@Mrs. Doily: No; actually, dictionary pages is my running theme. I lined my invites with them, am using them as overlay on my seating tags, made dictionary heart bunting, and am making table runners from them. It’s my cheap schtick. (;
And, after about 10 envelope liners, I realized I really couldn’t look carefully at each page or it would never get done. Someone has an envelope liner with the word penis on it, I just know it.
(Coincidently, though, the cake topper was from a biographical dictionary and had one of my character’s names on it. Yay!)

And, of course, now I’m having second thoughts. Is this a bit too self-absorbed to have pens as the topper? I mean, he and I are just starting out as writers (we each have 1 book out) and for work, we’re just copywriters. It feels so “look at us! We are WRITERS.” When I picked it out, I was just psyched I didn’t have to put people on the top or some animal that we have no affinity to. But now…it feel pretentious.

From a fellow person-whose-job-is-basically-copy-editing, I don’t think it’s pretentious at all! It’s actually a pet peeve of mine when people are like, “but you don’t understand. I’m a WRITER.” 🙂 I don’t think what you’re doing is like that at all, though! You’re just celebrating your love of written words, which isn’t pretentious at all! Plus, it totally relates to your current jobs anyway!
Also–the dictionary pages theme is so adorable. I’m a little jealous I didn’t think of it! 😉
