sarajenivieve :  okay so at first we were going to DIY our music. we were going to rent speakers and my uncle was going to use my laptop/ apple music. after adding up the costs of rentals i was pretty discouraged. i had also read a ton of polls on here on whether it was a good idea or not. i got a lot of mixed reviews. i decided to just rent a dj. i realised that i wanted my uncle to enjoy the day, not be stressed with dj stuff. i also didnt want to deal with it. it is a lot of work and preperation. coming up with playlists is not something i wanted to do half assed and my mind is in so many other places. we were able to find a dj, that would do the ceremony music and a 5 hour reception for only $700. dont let me discourage you. ive also heard about a lot of DIY music weddings that work out perfectly. i just decided i didnt want to deal with the hassle. just make sure to take time to create your playlists and always have a backup plan. my wedding is in april, but i’ve found myself cutting down on alot of DIY things i wanted to do. there is simply not enough time for me to do them all. keep in mind how much time you have and how much you still have to do. i LOVE to DIY but it can get really stressful. one thing we have DIYed was my flowers. i found beautiful Bridesmaid or Best Man bouquets at hobby lobby and matching flowers for my bouquet. i bought a bunch of extra filler flowers. my great aunt used to own a floral shop so she offered to help me take them apart and rearrange them. so thatll be pretty easiy. what else did you want to DIY?

We’re DIYing the music. I’ve also read a ton of mixed reviews, but they actually made us more sure we wanted to do it ourselves. It helps that my fiance has VERY specific taste in music, and both of us really enjoy pouring a cocktail listening to music/planning our playlists on the weekend. Also our friends and family will dance to anything. It also fits the overall vibe of our wedding – upscale cocktail party.

As for who’s manning it, we hired a day-of coordinator who’s going to manage the music and bar back for us. And if that doesn’t work, we’ll give one of my brother’s musician friends $100 to do it. Done and done 🙂
